yes.
1. teaching is ever more demanding compare to the 80s and early 90s.
2. most teachers leave the profession once they complete their bond.
3. more and higher expectations of teachers are demanded by both the general public, MOE and the parents.
4. more than half the time a teacher spend in school is wasted on useless meetings, admin matters that contribute very little (or none) to a child's education.
5. parents are one of the major problems nowadays.
6. ranking of teachers are not necessary done fairly across different schools.
7. ranking of teachers across subjects are not done fairly within a school.
8. the cost (money, teacher labour and planning hours) of conducting the many activities initiated by the school leaders are generally not cost efficient for the students.
9. programmes and courses that teach techniques that cannot be applied to average or below-avg schools.
10. "please parents and moe" mindset of school leaders work against even the most passionate teachers.
And these are only some of the issues in sg. Why do u think the world lack teachers?
Unlike olden days, teachers only teach, that's all.
Now, there are camping, quaterly outing, know all the students (to see the parents in meet the parents session), long working hours, still need to go for training and courses. That is what primary school teachers are doing from the parents point of view.
I am not sure Secondary school teachers are also like this or not.
