Hi all,
Would be happy if anyone can help with verifying the calculation of balance sale proceeds in a divorce settlement.
A letter from the lawyer reflected the following method for calculation:
-----------------------
Sale price: $X
Les: Deposit ($A) HDB Loan ($B) Agent's Commission ($C) Legal Cost ($D)
Balance sale proceeds = X - A - B - C - D = $Y
Equal division -> $Y / 2 = $Z
For each party, take $Z - Amount refunded to CPF Account
-------------------
However, doesn't it make more sense to calculate it this way instead:
-------------------
Sale price: $X
Les: Deposit ($A) HDB Loan ($B) Amount refunded to CPF Account for both parties ($C) Agent's Commission ($D) Legal Cost ($E)
Balance sale proceeds = X - A - B - C - D - E = $Y
Equal division -> $Y / 2 = $Z
For each party, take $Z
--------------------
Any help, especially professional help, would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
