what should i do for the start ?
should i root my phone ?
is there any apps that is essential and it is a must to install them ?
i heard the smartphone itself cannot play some sort of video in some sort of formats. no flash too. any substitutes for these ?
can we use our own music/songs for ringtones ?
can we use our own wallpaper instead of those pre-installed ?
how come samsung galaxy ace, i want set my pics as wallpaper/screen
saver, but cannot set full screen ? must crop out part of it ?
why must crop part of it out ? i dont want that. i want full pic. how ?
throw it into singapore river, then go buy iphone
You don't have to root your phone if you don't want to.
You'll be surprised that all the samsung phones sporting the android OS can play about all video formats known to man. Including mkv format, even if the video file is 2 over gb in size.
As for flash, the galaxy ace is running on froyo 2.2, which is already flash capable, which means your phone's internet browser can play flash files, depending on your settings.
Yes, you can use your own ringtones, just choose the correct folder where you placed them.
Yes, you can use whatever pictures you want.
The reason for cropping is due to the fact that you would usually be using portrait format, and the number of widget screens you set will determine how your wallpaper will look like when scrolling thru.
Stretch the crop till it covers the whole pic, but seriously it makes your homescreen look stupid.
ya i try to crop whole pic but it look useless in any ways, since i hav 1 widget screen only (need hav more to scroll n see full pic)
so might as well crop part of it will do, yeah ?
thank you guys. i wil continue to play with my new phone n come back here if i encounter any more problem

What is the video file format? Just use moboplayer enough, no need the other 2. Rockplayer stopped development long ago because google hates them.
awaiting for the SGS II to be on sale ~

For samsung, don't even need to convert, just throw it in , and it'll play.

but when i throw it in, it says that it cannot play the video :(

So could you tell me what video format that you threw in is? It doesn't play flv files so easily.

not flv. i think is mpeg-4 and mkv.
i dl moboplayer, play liao, laggy. i dl rockplayer, play liao, laggy.i dl qqplayer, play liao, laggy.

Don't think, help me check the exact file format, you transferred it from your computer, so its easy to see what format the video came in.
Otherwise, I have to assume the galaxy ace 800mhz processor cannot take the load, and give you laggy video. Because my galaxy S does just fine for the largest mkv or mp4s I throw at it. My root and custom rom have nothing to do with video playback.

yes it is mpeg-4 and mkv. i guess my processor cannot take the load ?
also i see my battery indicator icon has some problems ? the bar doesnt move at all, then when i restart my hp, i am surprised to see a decrease in the bar
If you are using any 3rd party taskkiller apps, delete them, don't use them. They might stop your home screen from refreshing.

interestingly, i not using any 3rd party task killer. hmm, maybe i should dl a 3rd party batt indicator instead ?
as for the video, i suppose my processor is too weak to support them ?
mkvs, and mp4s take up alot of processing compared to those of other codecs, so yeah maybe. But if you ask me 800mhz is a good number, because i've never come across any process on my phone that goes above that.

so which video format would you recommend me ?

I dunno, avi using ffd, or xvid would be fine. Ever since I switched from iphone to samsung, never had to convert any more videos, just chuck it in and go. Thats why I say its awesome. Even their built in video player can play mkvs minus the subs.
should i root my phone ?
No you don't need to. Rooting is for adding additional function. Most user won't find it useful.![]()
is there any apps that is essential and it is a must to install them ?
Yes there's a lot. For me, gReader, App organizor, TaskManager, Handsent, OfficeSuite... and many more.
i heard the smartphone itself cannot play some sort of video in some sort of formats. no flash too. any substitutes for these ?
For video, I would give up already. There's too many format on the Internet. Samsung phone can do a auto-conversion when you copy, that's why. But first ask yourself, do you really love to watch movie on a 3.5 inch phone screen? About flash, can support in if you intall certain app, but also not very useful personally.
can we use our own music/songs for ringtones ?
of course. it's a "smart" phone man!
can we use our own wallpaper instead of those pre-installed ?
Definitely.
how come samsung galaxy ace, i want set my pics as wallpaper/screen saver, but cannot set full screen ? must crop out part of it ?why must crop part of it out ? i dont want that. i want full pic. how ?
I think you can, as long as you keep the hight and width ratio. If you are using G ACE, the resolution and the CPU(which is 600M overclocked to 800MHz) is not so nice for watching HD video.
I hope you did not use samsung kies to do file tranfers, its pointless, and dumb. Just set as mass storage mode from settings, plug in, and use it like your thumbdrive.

samsung kies ? i think need to install, since i am given 2 pieces of CDs.
oh well, just now my batt went dead without i knowing it until i restart my phone.
is it because i went to clear memory at RAM management section, hence i cannot see the bar move on my batt indicator ?
Yes, possible, don't need to install kies if you don't want to, I installed kies just to use the drivers, but I never touch kies.
hi ditzy. it seem that my video file is too big. i tried to play a 37.7mb video on QQPlayer, very laggy. but play a 5mb video on QQPlayer, no problem at all. the video are dl via realplayer fr youtube. so hmm, any idea what can i do to reduce the sizes of video that are big in size, or maybe any other dl tool i can use? thanks
