Hi all!,
Just recd a letter from SMU, offering me a place in their accountancy prog..
had went online to read abt their prog layout and everything seems so perfect.
But really want to hear the views from ppl who went to SMU , or had friends studying there...
is it really abt presentation, and must be really vocal to score well in this uni???
thanks!!!!
Your grades must be quite good ? Go for that course. I heard after you grad, sure can find job in the big 4.

Recently, went for their Master of Sc in info sys preview. Many foreigners and expensive fees. But must say very pro student facilities - even provide dinner and weekend classes.
You want first hand views of their course, nothing beats going down to the campus and talk/interview the students there. But don't just talk to few but sizeable number so that you get unbias feedback.
Heard from a friend taking accountancy, that SMU's course is sought after by Poly Grads. More sought after than NUS or NTU accountancy.. Not because it's easier to get in. Infact, it's way harder.
Go for it!
You deserved it. and you are good enough for it.
SMU is so good, the newpaper is always putting their students up for a weekly feature, just to meet their page quota.
see report on page B5

Hi there..
If you are joining SMU, be prepared for lotsa mugging and fluffing. There will be shitloads of projects. Interesting and fun sometimes, depending on your groupmates.
You won't be bored in classes. Laptop is right in front of your face all the time. For most modules that is. Haha.
Campus life is pretty not too bad. The activities, events, fellow undergrads, location.
Personally, I enjoyed my 4 years there. The emphasis on being vocal definitely helped me and I'm thankful for that. Haha. I like the learning atmosphere as everything is quite techie. Plus air-conditioned everywhere! And I'm one who can't study if I feel stuffy and uncomfortable. My only complaint was probably food. Blardie expensive everywhere.
No problems with finding job after graduate. Well at least for me and the SMU people I know. =)
Good luck and all the best! Don't mug too hard. Enjoy uni life more. No point chasing grades too much. Haha.
thanks all!...
of course the fees are high!....not like ntu and nus located at those remote area, haha(no offense).
Anw, i am a poly grad! , and these uni thingy really is a headache to me...haha...
dinky1409> i thought u can squeeze everything, and complete the crse in 3 years rite? how's the class conducted? i heard they are small class size, and then discussion...
anyone who happened to read this post, gg to SMU as well for this upcoming semester??? hehe:D

singapore will always need accountants. the turnover rate is high and they leave as fast as they can come.
i dont think anybody enjoys working as an accountant. i know many of them working long hours and many who quit after a month or two.
my friend working at big four slept 2 hours a night during the 3 months intensive auditing period. leave office at 2 am; reach home, bathe shit etc.. sleep at 4 am. wake up at 6 am. be at work at 8 am or such. he really looked like a panda bear (or jack sparrow lol)
and some also got to work on public hols. some work on weekends also; maybe to reduce the workload for the weekdays so they dont have to work till 2 am (see above example)
but if you die die want to study accountancy SMU is the best local uni to go.

What your company practices, and what MOM preaches are mutually exclusive.![]()

Yea can squeeze into 3 years if you want.. There were people doing that but what's the point? Enjoy uni life lah haha.. But i did mine in 3.5 years though haha. Played with the system a bit.. =D SMU was suppose to have a system with small class size so that there would be more interactions between the professor and the students. That was what enticed me in the first place. No more lectures style. Had enough of that stuff in JCs. Hated it thats why I preferred SMU. However, they took in so many students that typical modules started to have like 30+ students which took that interaction element away. Fortunately, I had some classes whereby there were only 10 students and it was more enjoyable and sincere. Lesser wayang-ing competitive students.
Gd Luck!! Enjoy your stay haha!

Audit is really hell. Haha. But it's like the survival of the fittest. You survive you reap the rewards. But most people chose audit to suffer at most 2-3 years then they will run away. They go for the experience and credibility. But not everyone in big4 suffers lah. Those who are not in audit are pretty much comfortable relatively.
4K starting salary after graduation.
No laughing matter. ![]()
