My take on the end of the world?
It is like a restart to the server. A major shutdown and reboot.
How? A dealy virus evolves and spreads by air, water and contact. No cure available and we all die, in a worst ever manner probably. The virus kills 95% of the world population and the remaining 5% survivor are unable to produce or procreate offsprings. The entire human race is wiped.
So slowly, our earth starts to rebuild by itself. Cells and primates start to evolve and we eventually have our human form in much later.

Sooner or later polar ice will melt. Must prepare by building a Giant ark. I bring meat inside. Cannot bring live animals. They will eat me up. -

There are a few million people living in remote places who will survive. They will have the world all to themselves, and will slowly populate the world and start to fight again.

i got this strong feeling that other galaxies has something to do with all these. =x
they visited us and pick us up before the earth is destroyed and sent us to another galaxies outside the milky way. hahahahaha it is kinda awesome when that happens xD

the "combatant" comet is not to be underestimated...it may hit at the volcanic or earthquake epicentres and tidal waves based on the einstein's relativistic mass-energy equivalence of a comet travelling fast and far from outer space (not to say the biggest one) will be even thousands of times more than the recent earthquake killing Japan..
if a hammer falls on your head from 1 m....needless to say about the comet la.....si bei jia lard....

Ever thought that the mayan prediction is false, because they say that the writings on the walls (calendar) suddenly stopped at Dec 2012. Could be be that they run out of walls (paper) or run out of carving tools (ink)?

Here's my theory how the world will end......
Human being caused damages to mother earth by conducting underground nuclear explosion emitting nuclear radiation to the surface of the earth and into the core of the earth.
This cause various damages to earth as earth quakes....
Volcano eruptions.......
Tsunami.....
And the awakening of all the monsters that had been asleep for millions of years in the core of the earth.
