curious, went for a interview earlier today for a model agency around town area. was told that iv to fork out my own money for photoshoot. 5 (50 shots) portfolio pictures for e price of 870 bucks. im new to this kind of line. is this a norm for all model agency whereby we have to settle e 1st portfolio pictures ourself? please advise.
normally yes
but there are some who no need to pay upfront
but deduct from the first assignment they engage for u
now u can tell us the name of the "agency"
try googling the name of the agency... U might some juicy news sometimes...

well first u google the name of agency and see if it is a real and legitimate company, then if u trust that it is really real and willing to find u assignments, then go for the shoots.
anyway there is this model agency i know the models do shoots $200/4 hrs. they are junior models/starters. so technically speaking, u can earn back after 5jobs or 20hrs.
after u start doing all those jobs, u can have those photos as portfolio and u can gradually build up. so no worries after that. one advice for u might want to go and know some design schools or fashion students. generally they have lower requirements for models and u can get jobs more regularly depending on the students projects.
forgot to tell u... depending on model agency, some dont require customers to pay for your casting calls. so which means u need to fork out your transport fees to the place the customer asked to meet u. so far i only heard of one agency that requires customers to pay $50 per person for casting.
for fashion shoots, sometimes the customer requires u to have certain items which "they require for the work but dont provide, and assume u will have". so u will end up purchasing some items paid by yourself for their fashion shoots.
for lingerie shoots, some customers make u pay for those u modeled due to sanitary issues.
u might want to check all these "additional" money that u will need to fork out along the way...
good luck ^^
clothes are sponsored lah
models no need to pay
after tt they just write it off under the advertising budget anyway
