During the final stages of World War II in 1945, the United States conducted two atomic bombings against the cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in Japan, the first on August 6, 1945 and the second on August 9, 1945. These two events are the only use of nuclear weapons in war to date.[2]
For six months before the atomic bombings, the United States intensely fire-bombed 67 Japanese cities. Together with the United Kingdom and the Republic of China, the United States called for a surrender of Japan in the Potsdam Declaration on July 26, 1945. The Japanese government ignored this ultimatum. By executive order of President Harry S. Truman, the U.S. dropped the nuclear weapon "Little Boy" on the city of Hiroshima on Monday, August 6, 1945,[3][4] followed by the detonation of "Fat Man" over Nagasaki on August 9.
Within the first two to four months of the bombings, the acute effects killed 90,000–166,000 people in Hiroshima and 60,000–80,000 in Nagasaki,[1] with roughly half of the deaths in each city occurring on the first day. The Hiroshima prefectural health department estimates that, of the people who died on the day of the explosion, 60% died from flash or flame burns, 30% from falling debris and 10% from other causes. During the following months, large numbers died from the effect of burns, radiation sickness, and other injuries, compounded by illness. In a US estimate of the total immediate and short term cause of death, 15–20% died from radiation sickness, 20–30% from flash burns, and 50–60% from other injuries, compounded by illness.[5] In both cities, most of the dead were civilians.[6][7][8]
Six days after the detonation over Nagasaki, on August 15, Japan announced its surrender to the Allied Powers, signing the Instrument of Surrender on September 2, officially ending the Pacific War and therefore World War II. Germany had signed its Instrument of Surrender on May 7, ending the war in Europe. The bombings led, in part, to post-war Japan's adopting Three Non-Nuclear Principles, forbidding the nation from nuclear armament.[9] The role of the bombings in Japan's surrender and the U.S.'s ethical justification for them, as well as their strategic importance, is still debated.[10][11]

Google translate - Three months before the book of life and death and old lay Zhu mirror universe, he once told clearance old Master: 1931 as manager he was a bank, usually spare time, there are always a few friends play cards, chat. One of them is the yin to go bad, and it is to work at night to the netherworld, his position is not high, is responsible for delivering documents, both for Suzhou City God when the poor. gwKfRK_Y€ (In the underworld of Shanghai City God, go under the jurisdiction of Suzhou are the City God), he said, one day sent a number of the Shanghai City God Temple "Book of life and death", are reported in Suzhou City God, that he received, his curiosity turned to look at those were a result he was puzzled by the name of which is more than five or six words. fr€€}N The next day we chat, then everyone can not think of reasons, most Chinese people name words (hyphenated name of) how to figure out. €l Three months later, January 28, 1932, Japanese soldiers to war in Shanghai. @r Then they suddenly realize, before it sent a group of Shanghai life and death book, the Japanese soldiers in the Battle of the death of one hundred twenty-eight register. @e€Ke From here you know "life and death", even if the war were killed, three months ago, the roster have been sent to the Suzhou City God there. @fJM]NrN]_ This explains the generally believed that the war in violent death, in fact, is doomed; died at what time, where are all doomed, indeed is "one drink a pecking Could it be fixed before."
Hmm no. So ?
If Japan had not surrendered, millions of dead on both sides were expected, more civilian than military.
puttting atomic bomb juz to make japan surrender faster
did u knw that allied planes has wasted many bombs on japan cities...
Considering what Japanese had done during the war. They are cruel by nature. They denied everything.
Japanese was too proud to serrender.
Well, I dont know.....
Is summary execution acceptable ?
The Japanese troops conducted many summary executions on civilians throughout Asia, including in South East Asia, including in Singapore.
Lee Kuan Yew even nearly died when he was being told to board a pickup truck. Only by a coincidence and fate that he and the others did not die.
Seems that you focus so much on the atomic bombing.
In my opinion, an honourable and gentlemanly war can only be fought if the other party is also conducting an honourable and gentlemanly warfare.
Since Japanese WW2 behaviour hardly can be called honourable and gentlemanly, I sincerely and honestly believe that they got off scott free / too lightly.
That is my honest opinion.
LKY was spared for a god given reason.
veggie....u can go marry a japanese chiobu to makeup for their past misgivings!!!!
Deal with it. History repeats itself when its misunderstood...
There are not right or wrong decisions, only good or bad ones.
Do you know that until today japanese civilians themselves (students et cetera) do not even know what really happened back then ? because the government never allowed their school books or medias to publish anything related to what they did in WW2 .
So they would all be blur when they read something like what we all posted =D

I also think that they got free too easily . that is why China until today is still pretty much unhappy .
are the atrocities that the Jap armies committed against the chinese in China acceptable?
only 2 bomb already very give face lah.....should give them at least 20...... but pls kill all the guys can already.. all the jap mei mei keep them alive pls...
this is not a topic that encourage or in anyway trying to defend the japanese or to make what they did sound right or to encourage sympathy for them . this is a topic meant to be discussed just as a neutral topic . feel free to provide your views .
The chinese are still mad and they have every reason to be mad. Well the people involved are all dead or soon to be dead by now i suppose. So whatcha gonna do ? Go to war again and kill more people ?
Let the matter rest. History is history. Make peace.

He did not die because he bluffed his way past the sentry guarding the bunch of Chinese men randomly picked for execution, with a very lame excuse: "I need to go home and cook".
They were completely randomly picked, so the sentry didn't give a shit.
I believe the Japanese drafted every last village idiot. An example of how one guy change history. If he has a grandson I'll bitch slap him.

no one is right, the Allies knew that Japan won't surrender easily and if they invade their mainland they would suffer more casualties so I guess its the better option for them.
Japanese have a way to eat the eel after WW2.
Put a live eel on the chopping board. One nail through the throat area. The other at the tail. Slice the meat off bit by bit. Customer can see the eel's head is moving and it is fresh.
Is there any other Races that eat fresh in such a way ?
Tradditional Chinese food and TCM always persuade people to eat cook food. Including vegetable.

it wasnt true.
the use of atomic bomb was to warn russia. not to force japan to surrender.
Just realised today is Aug 6. Hiroshima received the atomic bomb on this date.
Most mainland Chinese I met that went through military service or U told me the same thing. Few hundred short range missles available. Each could put at least 3 warhead. Each warhead is >50 times than those dropped on Jp. (Yes, very far behind USA.)
Japanese is going to love Chinese.
To me, the bombing was outrightly unacceptable.
The atomic bomb is a weapon capable of absolute annihilation. Practically noone was left unharmed, not to mention most casualties are innocent civilians.
Claims that the atomic bombing was instrumental to end the war are simply untenable. The Japanese was fighting a losing battle then and a surrender or defeat was inevitable. In fact, the decision of using the atomic bomb was tainted with a myriad of vested interests - such as "Testing the atomic bomb", "A display of superiority towards the Soviets" etc.
Not that i am overlooking the atrocities the Japanese had committed. In fact, I am still outraged by their nefarious acts towards the Chinese. However, to conveniently claim that the bombing as an "ethical justification" and a "revenge" is simply demeaning ourselves to the level of Japanese who abused violence to attain satisfaction, and therein is akin to a slap on our cheeks.
Hope that my post will provide some food for thought for you guys ^_^
Frankly, my parents went thru' WWII, and I know how cruel they were not just from the books, but from many 1st hand account.
I have also visited concentration camp in Poland, and the German are not anything better. I do appreciate the US entered into the pacific, which help to stop the war, and bring the much needed peace.
But if we take a closer examine, one can't help but asked:
1. Why the bomb were not use on German soil?
2. Why the US need to bomb twice? (technically, it is to test both both of different design).
3. Why can't US show the Japanese government the video of the Bomb effect via video? Will that not scare the s$@t out of them? (by the way, those pilot who bomb Japan went crazy, when they realised how many people they have killed).
We know from history that not all Japanese are hawkish, and there are many peace loving Japanese military officers and ministers, but at the start of the war, their voices were muffled. Thus, in a matter of time, they will surrender.
Moreover, Japan is an island, and after the sinking of Yamato, practically, they don't have any more naval power, and later stage, their so call 'Kamikaze' plane were also made by wood, meaning, their air-powered also crippled. All the allied need to do is to surround the Japanese Island, and in no time, the pro-peace Japanese will take over. Frankly, there is no need for the bomb.
My gut feeling is, the US are just racist to the core, and want to get back their shame of losing an earlier fight(s) to Asian (Japan).
Anyway, history are almost always written by victor.
