Hi all
I'm a Singaporean married to an Australian citizen, and we have just moved back from Australia to Singapore.
At the moment, we're looking a the issue of housing and have some questions.
We have a property in Australia - only a small apartment, worth less than a small sized HDB flat here, but is somewhere that we can fall back on if we ever need a place in Australia (which we will be going back to now and then, since my wife has lots of family there).
I heard of the new HDB laws introduced a couple of years back, and it seems that even as Singaporean married to a foreigner, we have to dispose of any overseas private property if we buy ANY HDB flat (resale or not) - is this correct?
The only other option we would thus have is to buy a private condominium. But given that condos are priced way out of our range (together we earn less than $8k a month so a condo is really stretching us), it seems like that is out of the option too.
Am I missing something here, or is selling our overseas property the only option?
Thanks
