Hi, I remember some time ago, LKY was talking about Singaporeans learning American English.
However, I am not going to talk about LKY or what he said, but I want to discuss 'American English'. do you guys think that it is correct to have a separate section and call it american english? Is it not just colloqial, like Singlish in Singapore or Engrish in China? In my opinion, there is no such thing as American English, it is just wrong.
Yes, America English (incl Canadian English) should have a separate section, it is agreed by linguists it is a distinct form of English apart from New Zealand/Australian English and British English.
Hmm....very good point.
I believe there is also Singaporean English, and Singaporean English can be put at the same level as American English.
But Singaporean English is not necessarily Singlish, it just differs from the choice of words, the expressions, etc, so it is still formal English but with Singaporean characteristics.

Yes, that is what I'm talking about. You know, Singlish is considered a screwed up corruption of the English language, but American English is not thought of as such.
