where do they get actors in large scale ancient war movies

  Whenever we watch those shows on ancient warfare, we will see many actors riding horses and armed with weapons fighting the war.
  
  The people seems to be very expert in riding horses and can ride the horses very fast.
  
  Where do they get so many expert horse riders to act in the shows?
  
  Nowadays not many people know how to ride horses unless they can get a few hundred of jockeys to act in the show riding the horses..

  Let me give you a straight answer....

  They mostly will prepare, or go for training before the actual project takes place, its an actors job if he/she wishes to do that particular role for the movie.

  My assumption:

  The production team probably contracts the horse from riding centres and stables...and maybe most of the riders are either volunteers from a riding enthusiast group or just paid extras who have experiences in horseriding. :)
