my father jus recently get caught for taking drug..he told us he get sentence to 1 year from 27 feb...here the stories goes..we all know he was a drug addict fo mny years so we did finally send him to IMH centre of addict for 1 month to stop his habit..the place did tel it wil register my father name under cnb but they wil not caught my father..but after 3 days he ask me to take him back home and promise he will not take it again..but after awhile he stil taking it until finally cnb came and take him away..i and my mum was not there..he col tat night and say his urine positive..our heart drop very2 hard..we wil stress and tears that night..wat we want now he can completely stop his addiction while inside and come home soon?
so i wanna ask he can go out early probably 6 month for good behavoir is it true??.but wit tagging on leg?
what abou home detention?
he:(( told us inside cell ntg to do?..when light is on is nite when light is off is day..hw can i do somethin meaningful inside or send him to programmes like workin,study etc

The thought of not seeing ur family, no freedom, nothing... mentally punished.
Can go crazy one, I heard that no form of physical activities can be done in the cell. Push up also cannot.
After eat finish can only walk about in the tiny cell to digest
Btw your father is 1 year sentence consider is short term jail sentence.
Be thankful.

I am not sure if drug offenders are priviledged to early release or home detention. However i believe they should be.
If i am right, every inmate(except for serious crimes) is automatically entitled to the home detention scheme. However from what i know, the home detention scheme is not 6 months, but is 1/3 of the total sentence duration
The leg tagging system only applies if the inmate is entitled to home detention.
This home detention machine if im right, is made by cisco, or only installed by cisco officer, or something about cisco.
For home detention, the inmate will serve his/her 'sentence' at home, and they are entitled to 2 hours off(if i remember correctly) per day, and usually it is from 12 to 2 pm.
During this period u can go any where in singapore, i think pulau ubin also can, as long as u are back in the 'detectable area' of the machine before the time ends
This "2 hours off timing" i believe can be 'negotiated' with the inmate's officer, but you can't change the duration, only the timing.
This can be done during the day of release.
During the home detention period, if in an event whereby the inmate is sick and needs to see a doctor, he/she must call the prison and inform them first, seek permission before he can go to see the doctor(if i am not wrong), and he/she must ask for an Medical Certificate from the doctor.
The detector for the leg tagging thing is a very sensitive and strict system, and it's works like the wifi router in your house. There is a distance in which you must stay within, and i was told the system will alert the headquarters if it detects the inmate is 'out of range'.
If you are staying in the landed property with 3-4 stories kind, they may install more than one of these system, just to increase the range.
If your father is eligible for the home detention, the prison will call u up to make an appointment on the date to install this system, and if i am right(again), this system operates on your home telephone line. SINGTEL MIO Voice is not compatible, as far as i know. Dun ask why, i also duno why la very jialat and troublesome.
Don't worry, prior to the home detention program, the inmate's officer or chief or big shot will call the inmate's immediate family,asking if you are agreeable to this home detention thingy.
If yes, they will call u and one of your family members to the prison for a 'briefing'. You can bring more people for the briefing, but the room is actually the officer's office, added with a lot of chairs to accomodate the family members, so it is quite cramp in the sense.
The person who will eventually escort the inmate home, must go for the briefing, and he/she must be above 21, and must be immediate family member(means boyfriend/girlfriend/aunt/nephew etc NOT ALLOWED), and the person must be living in the same house as the inmate, i.e. the IC must be same address(they will take your IC and check). the person must also come on the day to pick up the inmate
INFORMATION such as date, time, address will be given during the breifing. So better attend. Make yourself free the day during the day of the breifing, at least 3-5 hours of free time.
As they prison brief batch by batch, and the office is not very big, and you may need to wait for your turn to be called to the breifing.
There will be an officer calling out "Families of <<inmate's name here>> please report at counter xxx". Be very attentive when u see ppl lining up or calling names, they dont use speaker, and background noise will cover their voice.
Tip: Seat near the counters
During the breifing you can ask questions. Held at the 2nd floor of the prison(in the officer's office). When you go to the 2nd floor of the prison for the briefing, you must put handphone at the locker, etc. Then they will use the metal detector to scan if u bring some unauthorise things. Standard procedures
Before the day of release, the inmate will be transferred to another 'camp', it is called selarang camp.
During the day of release, max 2 immediate familly members can go there(means go inside the "restricted area") and pick the inmate up, there will be briefing on the home detention scheme.
Whole family can go to the place, but only 2 can go in. Others can wait outside. Outside No aircon very hot, but there are fans.
However inside the breifing room, the aircon on until very cold, u can ask the officers there to turn up the temp.
Don't worry to much, from what i feel, singapore prison seeems very professional.
This is written to the best of my knowledge, because i didn't pay too much attention during the breifing, just the main points, come on la, everyone's mood is to bring the inmate back.
Look on the brighter side, your father is only 1 year, during the times when i went for the briefing, televisiting etc, ive seen sad faces, and being kaypoh, i overheard a mother telling her children they are going to see their father for the last time or last few time before death sentence or sth. Somemore the kids still young. Then the kids still duno wad happen liddat. Quite sad in my opinion.

Home detention is tagging.the stupid black box tie to leg. is done at salarang drc camp.
Ur father is short time , not eligible for work. Even work is also become deliver food to every room..sweep floor...etc
Inside small room of cluster B is max 4 person, 1 toilet (no door). Water for drinking is a hole at eye level.(press the knob will have drinking water come out.) Is inside the toilet.
Inside nothing to do, not really, u see many ppl do exercise, play simple DIY games. Read mazagines.
Morning food is roti with either planta or the strawberry, tea/coffee.
Lunch is rice (portion of the rice is maybe 0.7 time more then $3/- chicken rich but will not full)..some time eat bee hoon on wed? cannot remember liao.. got some friday when they wash kitchen, per person will get to eat 2 instant cup noodle from vietnum.
Dinner mostly got meat, the drumstick or fish...of cos got vegetable.
Daily event is morning got 1 check(called muster), all ppl in front of the door.(the blue door got 1 square glass for sargent action barbi to see us...then we hv to say morning .. )
then wait for breakfast..eat finish, many will walk up & down to let food digest..
then check again B4 lunch....then again walk walk walk.. then check again, then dinner..
Bigger rooms can up to 12 ppl sleep (2 toilet)..walking into room got to take of plastic slipper, cos the place u step VERY POSSIBLE is the position where ppl head is when sleeping cos inside very hot, sleeping at door is cooler.
Top for 4-8 ventalation fan..no power de..
Food is brought into room from the bottom/middle of the door..like dog lor..
If sick, every morning got ppl come open door window ask if anyone wants to report sick..
if sick, got free medicine (everymorning hv to walk down to eat). BUT if it fals on the day when we have yard.(is a indoor basketball court + sepak takra court) the sick ppl cannot go..
Can read newspaper during yard time,exercise, can see fierce ppl front to back do push ups...1 yard time can rack up to 1k push ups..No Kidding..if want jogging got socks & shoes to wear.Finish liao throw back on floor.
Before walking to yard etc, have to do checks, we take off clothes, shorts, turn around,squat down, then wear back...
now prison is very relax de.. not like RTC if you happen to hear horrors stories from your friends. everyday eat sleep, talk rubbish, share experiences,pass time,sleep,walk, sleep, talk, sleep , talk,sleep , talk...

Under court, ppl get chain up like EXTRA FIERCE CRIMINALS....leg + hand cuffs...
**get chained up is after the lock-up B4 getting ready for bus.
BUT the only ppl are those that are tied using that material look like cloth but waterproof.like kelva?are the crazy ppl...
sit the maria bus, the seats is 3 rows. the seat is unimaginable smooth/no grip.watever jeans/pants the person wear, will be like pinball if the driver drive abit more agreesive.
Walking a long pathway, something like 5-10min, Go in change into their clothes..when being release, ur clothes is dry cleaned..
Come out time> a belief is dun look back the prison, ONE can never do it anyway.. inside bus...
Bring a new set of underwear/clothes/pants for ur father to change. the old clothes all throw away. Take a dip at changi sea..then change in the public toilet.
If your father have tattoos, will be called to a room with other that have tattoos for photos.. then a men will ask what does it means.. there is where the fun part of the creative mind..
Ur father short term is living with ppl that are also short term or about to be realease. Not together with those long term de..

thax all fo ur thought i really appreciate it..ya my father say ntg can b done but wat he can do push up and the cell is so small wit 8 ppl inside..so sad to hear tat bt y he cant do other thing like execise or workin in prison???..he do say gt gangster(in sad faces when i face to face visit) n he try to avoid so tat gd performance..my father say he sentence to 1 year but by 6 mth he can b release but i dun knw home dentention,welfare group??..he take heroine..i so depress now as my mother(need my father love too) is at hospital and small little baby no one to take care at home:((..i thought of meeting MP(recomend by fren to go n c)but i not sure its really help..?

That is jail mah, the cell when sleeping also side by side.. but its ok lah..
Gangster sure have lah..when normal come down to reading or watch tv. all take out shirt can se many tattoo ppl..not really will fighting de.. THAT is UNLESS if your father is staying with those thay are sentence to many years.. You can try,, but by far, drug case/ah long case like nevr see pl get 0.5 sentence. Jail will minus 1/3 of term.
Why is he being sent to prison i do not know. i never went in drc b4, so i cannot comment what is the diff between drc & changi. Inside changi drugs ofender are quite many repeat offender..
After finish prison term = fresh person. Can bath alot of times too..only 9pm the water close to morning 5 am i think.. inbetween there will be water ration also like half hour to 1 hour during day time..
Prison is not really as jia lat as many ppl think..Its just the freedom. Like me I also alive & kicking now..LOL as long not dead ok liao...
