What can we do to end unlicensed money lending activities?

Rope in the assistance of Resident Commitee and Town Council to install notice board inside the lift. So that we can put up anti loanshark poster to educate others. Although there are notice boards outside the lift. But we are always in hurry to work or to school. Who will really stop and take a look at the information put up on the notice board.

Maybe you are jobless and really need help~
I'm sure you can turn to the town councils for subsidies too!

Installing notice board inside the life may not be feasible due to the cost of materials. Generally, there are about two to three notice boards at each HDB blocks installed at prominent location/at the main lobby. -

Loansharks are doing so because many citizens are on patrol. Chances for loanshark runners to get caught are higher. -
Loansharks are using indirect method to harass the borrower. Borrower and his family will be embarassed when their neighbours approached them with the "hell note" and debtors' note. Some neighbours will make police report. Borrower or his family will then be contacted by Police to assist in the investigation. I do not wish to be used by the loansharks. I will just ignore the letter and move on. What would you do?

Agree. It may not be feasible because it is costly to do so. Perhaps NCPC can help. -

The interest is so high. Who would wants to take a loan from loansharks? What is the root cause for them to do so? What forced them to end up as loanshark runners? How much are runners paid per assignment?

I came across an advertisement put up by loanshark when I was passing by a Park located beside Bus Interchange. Stickers or posters with message written in Mandarin, English and Bahasa Malayu were pasted on the lampost, signboard and pillar of the walkway shelter. Loansharks are pretty innovative nowadays. You are able to get their contact numbers when you made a search via facebook or google. They claimed that they are licensed money lenders.

Loanshark runners changed their mode of collecting payment from borrowers when many of them were arrested by Police in the yesteryear. Nowadays, the borrowers were instructed to make payment via ATM. What is next? Most probably, they will instruct the borrowers to remit the money to an overseas account in the near future.

Never take a loan from an unlicensed money lender. You will be in deep shit if you are unable to make payment. Never take a loan from licensed money lenders. Debt collectors will visit your house, your workplace, approach your supervisor or employer if you have defaulted payment. Approach your relatives or friends for assistance if you are in financial difficulty. Do not take part in any forms of gambling activities if you have family history of problem gambling. Do not play fruit machine at clubhouse as it is very addictive. Such machines are programmed to get players addicted. Casinos and clubhouses rely on fruit machines to make money. Do not make withdrawal from your credit card account, cashline account etc to fund your gambling activities. Do not gamble in the presence of your child. Do not think it is alright for your child to gamble during Chinese New Year. You will regret when your child turns into a compulsive gambler. You will never have a peace of mind when he borrows from loansharks to fund his gambling activities. Set a good example for your child to emulate.
