my friend say it takes too long, he said those kaplan 1.5 years can get a honours degree, why bother going local uni, i really faceplam....
Because the employer will give higher pay to loval university compared to "private" school. Trust me, my "friends" who attended private school 's universities didn't even get to have an interview after senting 'N' number of resumes and still waiting for a "miracle".
What they teach is crap.
How they teach is even crappier.
I have seen more than 1 friend attempt to take a degree in econs and not surprisingly, it was largely unhappy and an extremely stressful experience for them.
Imagine squeezing what people learn in years, into months.
You'll get the picture.
Why you should beware of schools from late night TV ads
Whatever the ads may tell you, four years of schooling in a good, reputable local uni is the way to go.
As evil talking bus has said, squeezing 4 years of curriculum into 18 months is nuts.
I wouldn't be surprised if a few corners were cut in the process.

Hmm, but in terms of knowledge that you gain, and what you have learnt at the end of the program, are private school degrees as good as NUS/NTU?
A lot of things you learn in school not relevant to real corporate world.
Like how to print double sided on the photocopier machine.
Or change the A3 size settings to A4.
That requires real hands on experience.
And sometimes using your leg to kick. ![]()

Of course not.
Not only that, the learning is absolutely unstructured, at least in my point of view, as both an undergrad, and a tutor.
Its simply mind-boggling that someone who doesn't even have a good grasp of what homo economicus is, should be learning the prisoner's dilemma and game theory.
If you want thrashy learning, that's the way to go.
Why your think some "elite" universities and even our local polytechnic had industrial attachment programme and other work-study programme with companies. It is also known that some big company like IBM or NEC did fund these universities and set up their lab in these public universities. Do private school have this "privilege"?
I'll say it depends on your intended career field.
Some people's jobs are not affected by their having taken questionable degrees part time from SIM. Eg their jobs involve personal skills and no great facultative abilities.
If private uni can get you honours degree in 1.5 years, why local uni cannot? Makes no sense right?

Quantity of knowledge is one thing..... appreciating the knowledge you receive is another.
Let's put it this way: I force you to eat four days' worth of food within 1 1/2 days. Your friend takes four days to eat the same amount of food.
You would have both eaten the same amount of food, but your friend would have appreciated it better.
You, on the other hand, would be too bloated and sick to care about what you just ate.
Public sector dont recognise private degree.
Just like JC, poly and sec school, there is the ranking. The school you graduated from, matters.
Most people who study a degree, is just for fun only. We can enjoy our youth and play sports. When you talk about earning money, more education does not imply a higher earning.

Really ? But that will mean they will lose a lot of money and time if they dropped out of their degree course for the sake of "enjoyment".
Ya.
I am taking my degree.
For fun.
I took a bank loan worth 5 digit.
For fun.
I am doing tuition to try to support myself now.
For fun too.
And actually, especially in the government, the PSC scholar earns less than a bachelor degree, and the public sector is the smallest employer here.
You seriously believe this guy?![]()

If we cannot believe the people on the internet, who else can we believe?
Who? ![]()
those who studies at PEI, like kaplan or MDIS, partner universities such as Murdoch or Edith Cowan for example, studied 8-12 units to graduate. if you are poly grad and did similar modules, you have up to 3 exemptions.
compare to local uni, they studied up to at least 30 modules to graduate isnt it, plus lectures and tutorials and having the best facilities and support. PEI's doesnt have the luxury of tutorials. 12 weeks of 3 hour lectures before the exams. you are comparing apples with oranges.
