As tablets carry on and gain graphics capability and computing power, gaming companies are rethinking the direction they incorporate the devices in their overall strategy.
But industry insiders say it's still further off prior to tablet is recognized as a console — comparable to the Xbox or PlayStation — which are more high-end AAA games, including Assassin's Creed or Gears of War.
In the Entertainment Entertainment Expo, which got underway in Los Angeles on Monday, Microsoft unveiled a new feature it is going to bring back the Xbox, called Smart Glass.
The feature will permit Xbox games, movies and tv shows being integrated with tablets and smartphones. It will talk with all Apple tablets and phones, along with Android devices, and the ones when the windows are computer, and definately will allow tablets to use included in the overall gaming experience.
Video gaming industry consultant Jason Della Rocca, the founder of Perimeter Partners, said the majority of the games on tablets act like those found on smartphones: They're casual games that are mostly free, and don't make use of the graphics processors in the higher-end tablets.
He explained most tablet editions of hardcore games are severely scaled back and so are restricted to allowing gamers to purchase armour, or weapons for usage in a very multiplayer version from the game, as an alternative to delivering the full version with the game.
