For those that don't know what it is: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Synesthesia
For those that are too lazy to click: Synesthesia (also spelled synæsthesia or synaesthesia, plural synesthesiæ or synæsthesiæ), from the ancient Greek σÏν (syn), "together," and αá¼´σθησις (aisthÄ“sis), "sensation," is a neurological condition in which stimulation of one sensory or cognitive pathway leads to automatic, involuntary experiences in a second sensory or cognitive pathway.
I just learnt I have Sound->Colour synesthesia, seeing music as a bunch of...things in my mind (or mind's eye). Sometimes it appears as a bunch of poorly drawn, scraggly animation, othertimes it's a vivid picture for the duration of the sound. To make it easier to imagine, a bass drum in a part of a song appears as a grey splot of paint, but changes in intensity, shape and size depending on whether other instruments are also playing at that time. A drum roll usually brings up an image of many Uno-stacko/Jenga blocks rapidly being stacked up before tumbling over (on the cymbal crash at the end of the roll).
The best representation I could show, just that music/sound instead of taste is the trigger of the visuals: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yyah49_Oz78
I'm curious to know if anyone here also has synesthesia :o, maybe of different types. I don't know anyone around me that does.
