What are your thoughts on this? Agree?
"So I know that some people are for it while some are against it. Well, those who are against it, they are against the govt for wanting the old folks to work until they die. This is what I heard. Correct me if I'm wrong.
Those who are for it, they support the idea that old people remain active in the aged years and rather them be occupied than to stay at home and stare into the blank ceilings.
I heard from a healthcare practitioner that working helps to keep the old active and is important to prevent Alzheimer/dementia. I mean, sure, retiring and playing chess everyday seems like an option but playing chess everyday will eventually be boring. Hence, leading to stagnation. No progress. This will deteriorate overall health.
Not a huge fan of MM Lee but his quote seems to make some sense. "If you believe that at 55, you’re retiring, you’re going to read books, play golf and drink wine, then I think you’re done for."
I personally think that we should encourage the old to work, if they want to. Take up simple tasks. Keep their mind active and contribute in a meaningful way. They have so much experience and it's a waste if the younger gen can't inherit their pot of gold.
Some of you may ask if I want my parents to work when they are 67? Seriously? I don't mind them doing part-time work or freelance work. So long as they are healthy and enjoy what they do, why not?
Saw this phrase from the article below - "Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life". Very true indeed.

I'd say no, that's why we have insurance/pension system whether it is run by gov or enterprise.. There is a whole lot of ways to keep the elders physically/mentally healthy, and they deserve the twilight of their life, unless working is the only way to make them happy, for some ppl.. Haha
retire meaans they need not work to supopr their families anymore. those who chose to work are encouraged to. with the extra money they earn on top of whatever pension and tis and that, they can get something extra for themselves.
but dont work cnanot cigar and beer oney a lot needed.
no money to buy. must wait until month end then got money.
dont look at my wallet lah, got money no money also like that - month end then got money ![]()
Yup...the main problem is not with re-employment. The problem is with CPF. There's minimum sum to hit before being able to withdraw at 65.
That's why we have to raise wages for the lower income and not reduce their pay when they are considered matured workers. The recent move by NTUC - no pay cut for junior civil servants is an encouraging one, IMO. We can't do anything about CPF but we can do something to help these poor folks...
Stay at hm n stare at blank ceiling? play chess? U think those rich ppl do this? they go tour around the world leh, only the poor n mid class are trapped to wrk till collapse
Lucky during my parents time things were much better compare to now,I rather pass on peacefully than wrk all my life, who to blame? Only can thank the 60.1% for all this
It's abt planning, lot of old folks need to work till collapse are those without enough money in their insurance/pension account..if you can realize how important it is to do planning, u can start early when u r still young, put aside some money to your retirement finds on monthly basis, take some time to study those financial products and see how to make use of it. Even if you r just a mere mid class, I think by the age of 65, u should hv a abundant living, if not rich. Haha... Look at those Scandinavian country, ppl can enjoy good pension, bcoz they subscribe a lot of money to insurance company(gov though)... Haha

i encounter before. some old people at age around 47 they no need to worry about kids already, all rod got jobs, amrried. but they still lived in denial and dont plan, ended up now still dreaming wanna retired like a millionaire. no joke from 47 yo until noe\w 65/63 about 16 over years to plan and save. but they still like to dreamland sleep so now bo bian what little money got from seelling housed used up and husband's CPF after he died all used up have to keng act crazy... schedule is junjun onme everytime no money will go 'siao' but doctor cannot find any problem so just issue some medication lor since you go see doctor they will have to prescribe some medicine..
Depends on whether the old have enough money to get by....some don't have enough savings, hence must work....some work for pass time and money....For me, I'll still work if I can after age 65....if I can still move....Hehehe! ![]()

Most people don't have enough $ to retire in Singapore...try to save $ for old age and don't buy too expensive housing...you should be ok if you start saving now.
its not 'should'. there is no right or worng. it should be. want work, work, no wnat work, dont
If can continue working, try something much less stressful...fully retire can be rather boring after sometime....
I hope to retire when i m 80. ![]()
