Foreigners in Singapore Universities

  I seriously feel that Singapore Universities(NUS,NTU,SMU) should stop giving so many places to foreigners. In some courses(For example engineering),the number of foreigners make up more than half of the total students in that particular course! This would only make Jc and Poly students feeling more stressed in securing a place in Singapore uni, even so when a degree is so important nowadays..

  agree! local universities should be for locals! Foreigners who are interested in a degree can obtain it from the private schools.

  Yup, I agree. Degree is king here. What is making more unfair is that some of us have a better social-economical background than others, some comes from dysfuctional families and some have to deal with crappy mentally-ill parents.

  To Bio-Hawk, Well I am not saying that there should not be any foreigners in Singapore Universities, maybe just provide 10-20% of the vacancies in each course to them, and a few to the more ''prestigious'' courses, not to the extent of 60-70% in some courses. I am sure Uk and USA universities does not have so many foreigners since they have to pay a huge sum of school fees, especially the more popular ones.

  Universities all have one thing in common, they are business entities. They have one sole objective, to rake in earnings to keep the place running. Foreign students pay the highest fees, usually without government subsidies. The same thing applies to universities worldwide. Go figure.
