Do most people find English or Chinese easier to write/read and speak? Do you think it is more important to master Chinese or English and why?

English is easier to write, however chinese is easier to speak but hard to write as there are alot of characters. Both are important to know i guess.

Wow it is usually hard to master both languages, many people are only proficient in one language. It is worrying that more and more youngsters are hating Chinese nowadays.. -

think english is easier to learn... chinese writing is esp difficult to learn... needs hard work.... that's why a lot of young people nowadays dont like it... cos need hard work mah.... i more 'traditional'... a chinese should know at least how to speak the language and know the culture.... know your roots.... :)

still remember in primary school learning how to write chinese is to write it like 'a hundred' times on exercise book... though i love chinese, i still hated that... now think back, that seemed to be only way to learn at that age! wonder if they still do that in schools now to teach students how to write chinese?

People in Europe knows many languages, german, french, italian, spanish, english. and now many in europe and the us are learning chinese.
Many people in Taiwan knows chinese and japanese. The Malaysian chinese know chinese, malay and english. many Indonesian can speak indo and english, and chinese for the ethnic chinese.
Here we learn both languages in schools, you can find easily the people to converse in english and chinese, switch on the tv you can listen to both english and chinese programs. so we have the environment and we should make the best use of these to command both languages, if possible, learn a third language.
find the interest in the use of languages. My mom learn chinese by watching korea drama.
If our young people don't learn, we would soon lose out to the PRC who speak english and the angmoh who speak chinese. Trust me, there are many.

English or Chinese is ok for me. Those two are same important.

I personally feel that reading the subs would be a much effective way of learning -
