Saw this slogan on the exterior of a bus:
“We have found a way to cook our [products] 10 times faster, that’s productivity!”
I saw this ad, I sighed and added that company to my list of banned food. Turns out, the so-call productive way is microwave. Those who don’t know, please google “microwave food causes cancer”. Those who thinks microwaved food is still healthy, please continue eating microwaved food, it’s your health, not mine.
Faster isn’t always better. Let’s take poultry for example…
Chickens have been fed with hormones and steroids so that they grow and mature quickly in 6 weeks. They have to be harvested (ie; slaughtered) at 6 weeks because if they grow to 8 weeks, they will die of heart attacks as the heart does not grow at the same speed as their bodies. No wonder, I’ve been seeing pink chicken flesh when I bite into fried chicken at K**!
Same goes for cows and sheeps, so that they grow faster and produce more meat and milk. All in the name of PRODUCTIVITY! What happened to natural farming?
Something closer to us, our workplace. I’ve worked in companies where 1 person was hired to take on 2 persons’ workload/tasks in the name of productivity. Such jobs are often labelled “fast-paced, dynamic environments” in job ads. Employer gained cost-savings but still lose money due to high employee turnover. Nobody will stay long in such jobs. Some ppl will take on such jobs due to long periods of unemployment, ran out of money or unaware, but nobody will stay long.
Some productivity is good but when overdo it, it yearns adverse effects. Do you agree?

Productivity in economics terms = increase in per capita GDP over time.
Singapore leader's annual bonuses are tied to GDP increase of Singapore: thus the need to flood Singapore with workers: foreign talent or otherwise.
Unfortunately, all this overemphasis on GDP takes a toll on everything from people's health, social cohesion to global warming and env. pollution concerns , neither of which is ever measured in GDP terms until it is much too late: e.g. high healthcare costs due to unhealthy population, early cancer deaths due to bad lifestyles and exposure to environmental pollution, and if anyone complained that life was suboptimal: its because we over emphasise GDP and thus compromise on everything else...

well said. Few people today understand "慢工出细活”。
In this era, people are glued to their hp and Ipad, they watch a 12 episodes TV serials in 2 days, working days, on the bus, MRT even during meal time. this is productivitiy!
when people got a piece of news, without giving much thoughts, they send out via whatsapp or sms to 20 of their friends immediately, productivity!
Friends and relatives having dinner celebrating their fathers birthday, instead of talking and sharing with one another at the table, they sms with their friends at the same time, sometimes with different groups of people. Productivity!
Multi tasking...the way of life today, is productivity!
This new way of life is at the expense of our health, our relationship, and is reflective of our values. We have to live our own way of life, or let the environment change our life....and blame the government?

No wonder govt keep promoting productivity (ie; cheaper, faster & better).
So what if GDP rise? My salary still the same.

Exactly, they want quality and speed at the same time. But they didn't know more speed = less quality, less speed = more quality.
Quality takes time. Good things come to those who are patient.
...
chickens, cows, pigs are fed with chemicals to grow faster and bigger... in the name of productivity
instead of baking, cooking, frying... all use microwave... in the name of productivity
Sure cheaper and faster to get cancer!
.
hahahahahaahah
and go to the grave faster ...too
Productivity does not mean that the quality would be lousier. Productivity lets us create more and do more with less effort, it is the means by which we improve our quality of life.

That is so wrong. Productivity means the quality will be compromised, as evident in the microwaved food and poultry fed with chemicals.
With microwaved food and poultry and farm animals fed with chemicals, we have an increased risk of getting cancers and terminal illnesses. Quality of life is greatly worsened.
If it takes 1 hour to bake pastries, I rather wait that 1 hour than to buy microwaved pastries.
If you're not a patient person, you better learn to be patient. Otherwise, you have higher risk of cancers. Productivity must be invented by an impatient person.
I believe that there is a limit to productivity and when things get over the limit, things will go haywire.

Sounds like a nice place for spirituality and tranquility! All the best for you!
What to do, people are used to a fast-paced society now. When it's slow, we kpkb. When it's fast, we also kpkb. It's hard to please everyone. Hahahah.
