  single tick means message successfully sent from ur end

  double tick (grey) is message succesfully reached recipient end

  double tick (blue) is message seen by recipient

  Yes, blue ticks means that message is read, but sometimes you may have just opened up the chat by accident, or just wish to clear the notification count. So this blue tick system may not be 100% reliable. 

  This goes out to android users, I am not so sure about iOS users though as I do not own any iOS devices.  

  You may wish to turn off your blue ticks, however, you will not be able to see if other people blue ticked you. Blue ticks CANNOT be turned off for group conversations. 

  Open up whatapp > menu > settings > account > privacy > uncheck read receipts

  You can deactivate that annoying blue tick when you update your Whatsapp. Phew!

  So annoying whenever I open my whatsapp didn't reply then people say  i "blue tick" them sigh. Can't hide already xD

  sigh. Now with the blue tick people keep asking "Why you blue tick me?" Off last seen also cannot hide from people anymore xD I have friends who broke up because of this blue tick thing, beause boyfriend never reply, girlfriend think too much :( ruins friendship also

  Latest version of iOS and Android Whatsapp can disable the read receipt.

  Additional tips, you can disable the Preview notification as well so that whenever there is a new message, your message will not be display out in your notification.

  This feature is especially useful if you leave your phone around and have a lot of KPO friends who want to spy at your message via notification.
