"Modern Singapore was founded in 1819 by Sir Stamford Raffles as a British colony..."
Below: Gold coin issued in the year 1969 to commemorate Singapore's 150th birthday since its founding in 1819.
2015 - 1819 = 196. So Singapore should be actually 196th birthday this year!
founded and independence not the same

independence is change of government = change of top management only
founded = when it actually started
sang nila utama's founding is unstable, he said he saw lion but there is not lion in singapore. Not very reliable. So I take Sir Stamford Raffles.

The difference is whether you still call the woman in UK " your majesty ", and let her send her men to manage you, and you call them "SIR",
or once every 4 years you elect your top management, together with all other citizens of Singapore, that is called "Democracy".
When "your majesty" sent her man to manage, nobody can complain if they don't like who she sent.
When all other Singaporeans voted in somebody you don't like, you are allowed to complain and complain...that is "freedom of Speech".
Wow Nice Coins
founded by sang nila utama and javanese.. add a century more
but sang nila utama also develope this place.... he run very far after naming the island only

yah loh, i also find that ang moh bosses are kinder and nicer than asian bosses.
sg50 refers to our independence
woah.. the intelligence... woww
yah, why is it our history books only focus on Stamford Raffles and not Sang Nila Utama???
Because Sang Nila Utama came, saw a lion, named the place then left?
Also people beyond independence, 1965 represents the founding of a nation, as a Singaporean people, not just a random bunch of immigrants who so happened to live in the same place under some Britsh overlords.
From independence la deh
I believed it refers to 50 years of independence bahs
