AWS or 13th Month Pay

Is it a must for company to give AWS or some call the 13th month? If yes Why? If no Why?
Please give ur views. -
Don't know how true it is... But I've read from this e-mail article that it's actually a calculated part of our pay?

13th month or aws is considered part of our remuneration package but some companies do not have......they juz pay on 12 months basis, like mine now lor....nothing to look forward to....

one year = 52 weeks
one month = 4 weeks
52/4 = 13 months ..... so one year got 13 months
thats why companys give the one month bonus .... (well n
ot really bonus ) -

not sure of this.. but it's part of pay.. you're pay is actually for 52 weeks i.e. 13 months.. every month we are paid equivalent 4 weekly pay or something like that..
p.s. when applying credit cards.. declare your pay as 13 x pay.. -

AWS or 13th Month is not a must. Just found out some time last year or this year, when my company was looking into cost cutting (which I call it company's pay cutting opportunity). Whether AWS/13th month is compulsory or not, I look more forward to variable bonus, cuz in good times, my company can give quite substantial amount for variable bonus - a lot more than the AWS. Giving out variable bonus also means that the company is doing fine and nobody is going to be retrenched for the time being.

We singaporeans lose out on being paid monthly wages cos we work 52 weeks a year and being on 48 weeks of wages.

Saw this formular before..this are just an argument. Who say 1 month is 4 weeks? I mean if you argument in this way, those 5 days week how? Sat and sun they aint working...365-106 (53 x2) = 259
then 259/7 = 37. You actually worked 37 weeks excluded weekend!!!
AWS and bonus is the same thimg lah.......standard is 1 month some gets more so don even have, it is not a must also. -

28 days is the time take for the moon to make one complete cycle around the earth.
28 days is also the time taken for the average woman to have one complete menstrual cycle.
It is acceptable to define the average month as 30 days. The average month also has about 22 to 24 working days. -

1 week = 7 days
1 month = approx 4 weeks
4 Weeks = 28 days
Jan, Mar, May, Jul, Aug, Oct and Dec have 31 days = extra 3 days worked per month.
Apr, June, Sep, Nov have 30 days = extra 2 days worked per month
Feb = 28 days. we are being paid for the exact no. of days worked done except leap year.
Why is it called AWS = Annual Wage Supplement???
It is because we are shortchanged by being paid monthly wages and AWS is to make up this shortchange. It is in fact our hard earned money. -

fm wat i noe, AWS is not a compulsory unless it is stated clearly in the collective agreement between you and your employer...sadly not many pple noe abt it, they took it for granted or as an entilement during good times
you cant sue your employers for not paying you AWS
