Originally posted by SingaporeTyrannosaur:I don't really mind lizards in the house, esp. my grandma's house, which has tons of them as it is a terrace house with lots of wildlife around.
Frankly, I prefer having the lizzies around, they keep the cockroach population down. My own home, which is a HDB, is frequently visited by cockroaches and lizzies are a rarity there, in my grandma's place, despite being bigger and closer to nature, has a very low incidence of cockroaches thanks to the lizzies... so I generally leave them alone...
I wanted to catch some and rear them in an aquarium as well... but that plan fell apart...
Though sometimes when I'm feeling like hunting/sadastic and when a target presents itself, I will hunt the lizards using several match-grade strong rubberbands to snipe them down from the walls. It takes a while to master, but once you get the hang of it you can get pretty amazing results like zapping a lizard high up on the wall down.
It usually takes two or three hits to bring them down, and I try to aim for the head to stun them. The big ones will only be stunned by the shot while the small ones might die. Usually I fire one shot that stuns them, and follow it up with another hard hitting one that knocks them off the wall. Following that, it's a mad rush to grab the lizard when it hits the floor. I was pretty good at this when I was younger, and my rubber band shooting was top notch, which led to a lot of lizard losses in my gradma's house. Usually after I catch them, I'll play with them a little, pull off the tail (if it hasn't come off yet), and then let it go.
Rubber bands are fantastic for taking care of household pests... esp. dragonflies and cockroaches, for a dragonfly, a solid connection will usually break its body and send it spiraling down, or splatter on the wall... I got so pro once I could actually shoot off their heads, which is pretty disturbing, because the heads are very loosely fixed onto the body and seem to come off real easy, just hit high up the thorax.
Rubber bands work well on cockroaches as well, they are easier to hit due to their large profile and tend to be stunned when hit and do stupid things like go belly up or run in circles while a dragonfly or lizard that survived a hit tends to run/fly away. But usually a good, solid hit on the case of the body just above the wings will knock out the cockroach and nearly cut it into two. It splatters real bad thou, so you gotta get ready to cleanup. I prefer using soap on cockroaches, it's a cleaner kill heh heh...
