A lot of assumptions were made in this thread.
What indications were there that they were working and amending the safety structure(remedy the safety aspects of the site) at the same time?
Yes,they could have knew danger was coming and it was logical to have the cement mixer at the scene.The workers may have been in there trying to strengthen the site when the mishap happened. -

accidents r accidents...we cant always rewind the tragic story and say here and say there got hints concerning the tragedy. Life is a one direction movie....once played..there is no rewind for u to see that act again. to learn from the previous mistakes and do our best not to repeat it is the best we can do. but we still do not know when will the next accident scene appear..because we haven reach that far yet.....
no rewinding.......no fast forwarding. thats' the beauty and mystery of life. Live in the present...strive to the future...perhaps forget the past and learn from u..never to carry the burdens. -

They dun seem to comprehend that NOTHING should be left to chance and a halt work order should have been issued back when they 1st noticed problems.
but these people.. I do not FOR THE LIFE OF ME know why they find it impossible to get that SIMPLE concept into their thick skulls.

when was the last time you went into a tunnel and saw a TBM in operation?
when was the last time you saw grouting done in the tunnels?
i should have known better, with the kind of knowledge you have in this field, i shouldn't have bothered to reply your post. Any technicians in the related field would know more than you, let alone the engineers. -

According to source, Nicoll Highway MRT station has 2 by 2 stacked tunnels, like those in City Hall and Raffles Place MRT interchanges. This means that Nicoll Highway station has 4 platforms on 2 levels and may be an interchange with the future Bukit Timah MRT line or Eastern Regional MRT line.
The main reason why Nicoll Highway station tunnels are deep is that the tunnels between Nicoll Highway station and the next station Boulevard station (next to the National Stadium) has to pass under a section of Republic Ave which is a vehicular underpass, and the Kallang Basin.
This part of the tunnels is build using the cut-and-cover method. Also, as many has known, this part of the tunnels is on formerly reclaimed land.
In fact, Nicoll Highway station is the most tough project on the entire Circle line, considering the depth of tunnels, the tunneling method used, the soil stability and other concerns. -

Ltd./Lum Chang Building Contractors Pte Ltd Joint Venture. This is the first major contract for civil works to be awarded for the Marina Line project.
The contract is for the design, construction and completion of Nicoll Highway and Boulevard Stations, and includes the construction of tunnels from downtown Marina to Stadium Boulevard in the east.
The 5.4 km Marina Line, which will form the first stage of the Circle Line, will be a fully automated, wholly underground system. It will be the first medium capacity system in the Rapid Transit System (RTS) network in Singapore. Construction for the Marina Line will begin at the end of this year, and is target to complete in 2006.
Nishimatsu Construction Co. Ltd., a company incorporated in Japan, has long been recognised as one of Japan's leading general contractors. Lum Chang Building Contractors Pte Ltd, a locally incorporated company, is registered under G8 for general building and civil engineering with the Building and Construction Authority.
Both companies have experience and expertise in the planning, design and construction of tunnels, basement works and high-rise buildings. The Joint Venture has undertaken similar works for LTA previously and is currently the main contractor for the construction of Clarke Quay Station and tunnels on the North East Line. -
What I heard is that this engineer requested to be transfer out because he can't bear to see the tragedy to be happen !
He did informed his superior about the possibilities of a collapsed , but his advice was turned into deaf ears !
That's why he suffered from profession depression and committed suicide !
Whether or not a rumour , past is past , dead is dead , ashes is ashes !

I analyse the situation and reports that ... the LTA and the Contractor knows the seriousness of the tunnel , that's why they sent in MR JOHN down for inspection , MR HENG was also sent by the contractor to check , and coincidently , MR HENG heard some sounds coming from the pillar and quickly dispatched those eight Thai up to safety !
Mind you , those inspections were performed during tea-break as not to create alarms for the workers too !!
Those LTA brats knows everything inside out !!
My conclusion : This accident can be avoided ! Only if the project is aborted !
But due to contract obligation , work cannot be suspend unless LTA approve ! Apparently , LTA knew about it , and chose to proceed with it , too bad !! -

LTA cannot run away from the responsibilites of the entire incident, whether or not they knew the danger before hand. It is also obvious that they are putting a cover-up act to certain extend.
Fairly speaking, we ought to wait for the investigation report to be released.
Reminds me of the SIA tragedy. At least SIA is quick to admit fault and assume full responsibilities. -
