SIM or MDIS?

I have a friend who intend to study Degree in Accounting and Finance. She is confuse to go for SIM (UOL) or MDIS (Uni of Bradford).
Any comments on this?

Well for SIM graduates from the external programme from UOL, there will be the external student chop there in your cert, for MDIS, i understand that there isn't any external student chop...

Does the Ministry of Education have a list of accredited overseas universities? How do we find out if the degree qualifications awarded by these universities are recognised in Singapore?
The Ministry of Education does not have a list of accredited overseas universities. There is also no central authority in Singapore that assesses or grants recognition for degrees obtained from overseas universities. The reason is that the employer should be the one deciding whether a degree-holder has the qualities desired for the job and the qualification most relevant to his needs. The employer is in the best position to decide how much value he will assign to a person�fs qualification.
However, in selecting an overseas institution for undergraduate degree studies, it is advisable that students establish whether the institution is a bona fide educational establishment. Such enquiries may be made at the Embassy/High Commission of the country where the university is located.
Professional degrees such as those in engineering, medicine, law, and accountancy should be those recognised by the respective professional bodies. For example, a person with an engineering degree from an overseas university who intends to seek registration as a professional engineer in Singapore will have to check whether the institution that awards the qualification is recognised by the Professional Engineers Board.
In the case of overseas universities offering courses here through local agents, the institutions concerned and their agents are responsible for all aspects of the programmes. It is advisable for students interested in enrolling for such courses to find out as much as possible about the programmes from the institutions or agents, before enrolling in them.

Depends on wat modules ur fren is interested in taking, coz UOL and Bradford offers different modules.

if full time then go SIM better...
hwever i stil tink for ACCA is more practical...whereas SIM ...MDIS..those degree is like more to analysis type of work..those managerial level........hard to explain to u......mayb u shld consider whether u wan go into finance or accountin line..... -
i hear my fren who used to work for MDIS she say...tat quite a few canot find jobs wit the degree cos in sg...the more recognised are NTU, NUS, SMU degree in accounting or those ACCA, CFA, CPA.....
SIM mayb stil ok....bt some govertment sectors aso dn recognise or when comparing with a NUS grad..they will choose the NUS 1...bt if u gt ACCA, they will chosee u lar...(bt aso ACCA v hard to pass)...
anyway see whether u wan go govt jobs or private jobs..i think private jobs stil ok lar....tink u go some bank stil can find jobs... -

anyway i finally make up my choice to go to UOL. feel that the modules are more interesting than RMIT.
think it doesn't really matter that there is an external chop..like wad zen say..looking from another angle..if the sch is not goot, why would it want to separate its students between internal and external...
so far..the bridging course still k lah...quite intensive loh and i find that the lecturers are quite goot.. -
true tt RMIT modules are more interesting but there are like tons of projects to do. If u are not working part-time then go RMIT, if u are working part-time then have to think abt it twice. All in all it the Institute that u take ur external degree is only as impt as how much support (facilities, lecturers) you feel u can get..
Ultimately ur aim is still to get that degree regardless of SIM/MDIS or otherwise.. -
If you compare the facilities between the 2,SIM is better.....
.... But since your fren wanted to do courses for Accounting, she should go for ACCA as it is more recongise in the Accounting sector.... or alternatively she can try LCCI..... BY the way, the external programme at SIM is from UOL London school of Economics... one of the better ones in UK.... which is stronger in Sociology and Economics..... So choose wisely as a degree do not really guarantee you to be successful in life..... -

For part 3, u mus pass all at one time, if u fail any paper, need to retake whole part 3 again....
Successful completion of the ACCA professional examination with relevant working experience will enable graduates to become Chartered Certified Accountants, use the designatory letters ACCA, and work in any aspect of finance and business, often in senior management positions. Graduates can work as auditors, tax consultants and accountants.
Entry Requirements
A Degree from a recognised university
A Polytechnic Diploma/FTMS Diploma
Association of Accounting Technician (UK) or ACCA Certified Accounting Technician (UK) qualifications
Two ‘A’ level/STPM and three ‘O’ level/SPM passes (5 distinct and separate subjects) or their equivalent
Three LCCI Higher and two LCCI Intermediate passes (5 separate subjects including English and Maths)
Mature Students Entry Route (MSER) - Available for applicants who do not hold any qualifications but are above 21 years old and have a good grasp of English Language & Mathematics. The student will be allowed to register and will be given 2 years (a maximum of 4 consecutive attempts) to pass Papers 1.1 and 1.2 in Part 1
Regulations
There is a three-part structure. Students are required to pass 14 papers in total. In parts 1 and 2, students can sit up to four papers of their choice at any one sitting, subject to certain progression rules. In Part 3, students can choose two subjects from a list of four options to match their work experience or chosen fields of employment. All students must sit for the three core papers and these must initially be taken together.
Examinations
Examinations are held twice a year in June and December.
Exemptions
Holders of recognised business and/or accounting diplomas/degrees will be considered for exemptions from some or all of the papers in Parts 1 and 2. Students with non-relevant degrees (including mathematics and economics) will not receive exemptions from the examinations. Other higher qualifications, including professional qualifications, will be assessed for exemption from the new scheme using the above policies as benchmarks. -

All students intending to sit for examinations MUST register as a student member under ICPAS/ACCA Joint-Scheme. The ACCA/ICPAS Initial Registration Form has to be duly completed and submitted along with the following documents:

Deedpoll (if any)
One passport-sized photograph

The Student Package consists of the ACCA Student Handbook, Professional Syllabus and Student Training Record Book. Students should read the ACCA Student Handbook with care as it contains relevant information pertinent to their progress of the qualification.

as far as i know, if e.g u enrolled in Bradford Uni, upon completing, you will be offered UK's CPA, after which you will have to take a few modules before being able to convert to the local CPA.
Same thing applies to UOL, you will still have to go through the above process to obtain a local CPA.
In my opininon, ACCA or local UNI will still be a better choice for future accountants. but be prepared for some setbacks for ACCA lvl 2, coz i heard the passing rate is based on a certain quota for the year.
