Crying after exams...

Well, I think it's the current situation of the society. Back then, children do not need to study, just help their parents out, but, now it's more of a "you die, I live" situation. And I think it's this that the students fear getting a B because they might lose out. Not to mention the worry of not getting a job in the future as always warned by our parents. So, well, the stress is there.

Everyone in my class made in to the University except for one guy.
This guy today is the richest amongst all of us--------he went into business while the rest of us became Ta-Koong Chai ( bloody employees )
Moral of the story? Fail also nevermind lah, there are other avenues....sometimes even better.. -

but seriously, we go to uni in order to shape our minds... to "learn how to learn"...

actually all the little children really very poor thing.
the education std in spore really getting too high lah.
my child in kindergarten only n got so much hmwork, spelling, ting xie.
somemore not ez ok! we dun even learn them until pri sch.
and govm still say little chldren shld enjoy their childhood.
then when go into pri sch... all so stress !
juz look at the pri sch kids lah... nothing but study n tuition n extra class...
i dun wan to push my child also cannot, he will end up not catching up at all.
im not one of those kiasu parents, i let my child play n enjoy but then
now tat his in kindergarten i realise cannot liaos..
really will lag behind...
u know alot of smart clever students frm gd schs went into mental hospital,
alot jump down n die... their mind juz suddenly went dead like tat,
all becos of overstress frm sch studies...
yet all these nvr appear in newspaper.. n howcome gov nvr try to do something abt it... n yet the academic std still rising higher n higher...
its gd to improve std but its too much for the children to handle.. becoming alot overstress....
in spore, all look at paper.... if ur the lucky few to succeed entrep then v gd..
but not everyone can go tat way. -
let your child play...
play teaches a child better than books can ever... and your child learns real skills like how to be sociable, right from wrong, how to share, values and stuff like that..

and i bet your child is also when your child knows you are worried over these things

As an Early Childhood educator, I advocate for PLAY! haha.. SO Pls send your children to places such as childcare where the children are given opportunities to learn via hands-on experiences that can be seen as PLAY. COncepts as mentioned aboved will be learnt through them and really, the first 5 years are very important for future. What you are today is what you learnt in those first years. ANd, PLS don't send your child that is younger than 2 years of age to a infant care. SG infant care centres are just money making organisations that are not good and cannot provide quality care.Originally posted by the Bear:let your child play...

I think the grades are just grades that show how good you're at learning. It's not to show how good you're in the subject, definitely. Who actuallys remembers what they studied for during exams one year later? Or even a few months later?

About the reducing curriculum thing... actually is just a smokescreen one. The government reduce the cirriculum, the teachers will ask you to find those things online. You say give the students lesser homework but actually they are increasing the workload, just that outsiders cannot see.
Spoonfeeding no good, I know, but on top of homework, school hours from 7+ until 2+. Reach home, eat, almost 3 or for those who live quite a distance away from school, 3+ then reach home. Then still ask students to go online slowly source out the information but most of us don't do, heck them. I play on the computer can take less time than I spent sourcing information.
When we reach home, we just want to rest. Neighbourhood schools or not, the school is still competing for the ranking. Now system change not only focus on academic but also others, meaning nowadays students must become superman, everything also can. -

Fail fail lor, next time try harder. I failed the first time in sec 3 and many times after but I still here ok. My friends all worried after exams when want to get back results but I every night sleep the most during exam period.
You already submitted the paper liao and your exam pass already like you cry can get back anything. Don't cry over spilt milk. Nothing can be done.

too much emphasis is placed on a piece of paper
and i usually forget everything after an exam or rather nv had everything to begin with in the first place haha... -
I know of someone who comes out of the exam hall & cannot recall what questions he just did cos everything completely wiped out from his brain!
Ya, less homework but they give more projects. U end up spending more time on research & meeting up to discuss with team members.
Also end up doing more if u get lazy pple.
For Home Econs project my son has to submit booklet (must have cover pg, pics) + diskette on Powerpoint & 3D artefacts on balanced diet. Has to write on diff food types, health problems, consequences & recommendations for balanced diet etc. Plan a healthy meal, write the menu & why u recommend it, then have to cook it & decorate it.
In fact he has projects for Geog (on Environment), History (Jap. Occupation),
Music (create an ad. to mkt a product), Lit (book review)- all these while in Sec 1. He also has to juggle tests, remedials & CCA (twice a week till 4.30pm)
Imagine what the workload will be when he is older! -
