Is "Dear" A Sensitive Word Among Friends Of Opposite Sex?

I also came across gals who called me such sweet names when I'm not their BF. At times I really dunno how to call them back, thus I'll just call their names. But they got angry~! But when I call them by these sweet names, they misunderstood me wor~! They thought I treat them as my GF~!
How~?
However, to me I feel weird if she's not my GF and I used such sweet names on her~!

agree with you xav, dear is reserved for that special someone, although i tend to use other terms of endearment...
however last time (when i'm not attached) i sometimes end up putting "my dear" behind some sentences when i talk to my good female friends... like when I say "what are you doing, my dear"... somehow with a "my" in front, it makes it more harmless... -

For me,i always address my oppt sex either by their names or i will address them by calling them auntie or ah soh
if u wanna flirt,*dear* is a good word to be used tho ( in my own opinion ) -

Hmm... Guess everybody sees it DIFFERENTLY...? To me 'dear' just means 'CLOSE TO'... How CLOSE is the closeness might varies though it's the SAME WORD....
