consumer is more a point and shoot... auto everything. professional cams are mainly SLRs and have full manual functions and millions of settings. prosumers are in between, usually fixed lens (not SLR) but with the flexibility of manual settings for aperture and shutter speeds and other things like white balance and exposure compensation. -

in digicam terms, a longer focal length (higher zoom) can compensate for lower megapixels.. if u think about it, if u have a low res pic zoomed in, it can be the same as a high res pic zoomed out, but cropped...
somethign like that.. hope u know wat i mean.
and of course a better zoom lens means u dun have to walk to close to ur subject, which is sometimes impossible or very diffcult. like say at the zoo? ehehhe -
