Yes, if they chose to set the radar initially.Originally posted by jOhO:i'm no nautical expert.. but dun the ships have radar or something to warn each other on an impending collision?
There are a lot of possibilities. Let's not speculate.Originally posted by gogogogo:No matter who is at fault, i personally feel that anyone as a soldier manning a battleship like Courageous, should be proactive before the collision. If the radars, sonars, and navigating equipments are all in working condition, and the weather is calm enough, the only possibility lies only in the fault of the navigator on duty at that point of time!
They can always let the TITAN pass first. They can radio back to HQ, slow down or even stop the whole ship. The captain could have awaken the others or sounded the alarm...lots of possibilities and actions that can be taken IF someone is watching the seas at that moment!
Through this incident i hope that the RSN will really look into what's going on in squadron level.
I am not in the navy, but i know that going out alone at sea could be a taxing ordeal, especially when you are with a mission and not on a holiday. I was wondering why there were only 4 members of the crew resting at that moment? Does that mean that the others were all on duty?
Let's get into this scenerio. If the duty rooster were to be plan in such a way that the Captain breaks up the whole crew into more shifts but with lesser personnel on duty with each shift, then we can have more resting hours per crewman and thus when it is time for them to be on the lookout, they may have had more rest and higher alertness.
veri true....now is not the rite time to speculate.....as i also say liao..wait till the offical report out then say....Originally posted by xavier1979:There are a lot of possibilities. Let's not speculate.
Ships have radar to detect any objects in the area. But all radar have a minimum distance where objects are not detected.Originally posted by jOhO:i'm no nautical expert.. but dun the ships have radar or something to warn each other on an impending collision?

Au contraire.Seeing the damage done,i am surprise the ship didn't sink.In fact, kudos must be given to the crew who reacted swiftly to contain the leakage and to the person who gave the decision to shut off the compartment to prevent the rest of the ships from being flooded, even though there may be people inside there.Originally posted by kim_hwoarang:really sad/disappointed to hear tat !
RSS Courageous bo zo gang ! radar/navigation system so well still lang ga ! wat happen anyway man ! must investigate as to ans 4 the servicewoman !

My ex-colleague was not lucky too.She was supposed to get married soon too.Originally posted by anfuni:good luck and send my regards to your fren thou i donno him/her..
my fren was not that lucky.
The 14 extra personnel are probably attached personnel who are just trainees there to serve out their training phase. The 30 personnel only include operational personnel, not training.Anyway,i don't see why ladies can't serve onboard ships unless you are a closet MCP who thinks ladies should be in the kitchen. As for a friday night, patrolling the seas is a 24/7 day job.Policemen work on friday night,so do bus drivers.Do you expect any less from the SAF?Anyway, have some respect for the dead or are you severely lacking in humanity?Originally posted by cwill:Hmmm...why on earth is a vessel build for 30 personnel carry 44 people???!!! Including ladies some more. On a friday night? Extra training? Or 14 extra pros providing extra service to the captain & crews?
