If a guy shows his love for a girl but the girl says that they can only be friends. Can people of the opposite sex just remain as friends even if one side shows interest in the other person? Or is it that the girl just want to keep the guy as a substitute/brother/best friend/sister/ so that when they no longer have the option to choose, The substitute/brother/best friend/sister is chosen to be their boyfriend...

She just came out of a 7 years relationship, said she afraid and not ready to go into another relationship.
Do u think i should ask her to be just just friend/lover without commitment?

take things slow.. start off as frens.. show concern n understanding.. when she's ready.. she'll signal to u..
a 7 yr relationship is esp hard for her to get over.. so.. be patient with her..

why i noe? cos i'm in this state. we are so call bf/gf. show concern to each other thou i'm the one putting in lots of efforts. she told me she isnt ready to hav a bf now or to accept me.. and i noe clearly why so i stay on waiting and at the same time, be her "bf".
but there are times when i feel extremely hurt too and worried and lots of insecure with this. and there are many times when i get so tired and fed up tat i wan to give up on the spot.
so think twice bout going into this so call unoffical r/s. by asking her to be ur gf without commitment, u arent being fair to her or urself. -
i was just thinking when she is ready than we can just upgrade the relationalship. At the same time i can still look for other options.
That is also what she want me to do....look for other option part...have not mention to her about the lover part
she did mention that she had not tried one night stand...why try just try me for many night stand for th etime being -

she is weird....when she reject my love..she was the one afriad that i would not be her friend....

guys and gals can be VERY VERY close friends. as long as there are NO OTHER STRINGS attached. the two pple involved has this psychological contract which states clearly that there will be nothing more between them other than being FRIENDS.
once someone breeches this contract, things get complicated. chances are, they won't remain "friends" for long after that. i'm guessing this is why guys are afraid to say they like a gal, for fear that they might sabotage the friendship also...
as for your case klint, move on. you've made a big mistake from the start. i won't tell you wad you SHOULD HAVE done, cos that'll serve no purpose.
just move on dude. there're plenty of fishes out there. -

I had a very good friend of 10 yrs. I've always treated him as a very close friend, almost a soul-mate but I have no special feelings for him nor was he treated as a substitute.
He treated me as a very good friend too, but to him I became more than a friend. On his 22nd birthday, I brought my new bf along and he was heart-broken because he thought he had a chance since I broke up with my ex. We stopped talking for a while but he contacted me again when he pulled himself together so to me, it was hey we are good friends again.
However, as some already know, we are no longer friends anymore and he has been avoiding me like a plague since I got married. Never once have I lead him on and I have always made things clear to him. Never once did he say to me,"I like you more than a friend" other than his 22nd birthday. Never once have we done or even have any physical contact beyond what is considered more than a friend.
I've always believed that a girl and a guy can just be very good friends but since this incident I have changed my mind. -

when the gal reject the guy, of course can still remain as friend mah.
and if the gal don say remain as friend, then wat she can say?

of course to be polite and not hurt the guy, of course gal will say be friend mah. simple as tat. -
