WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 03, 2008 Workers' Party mass cycling at East Coast Park cannot, PAP carnival at West Coast Park can So are political parties holding outdoor events dangerous? Well it depends on what party you belong to, it seems. If you were an Opposition party trying organise a mass cycling event at East Coast Park to celebrate your 50th anniversary, the Senior Minister of State for Law and Home Affairs, Prof Ho Peng Kee will reject it because political parties are not allowed to use public places to promote their cause. And also because of public safety. Prof Ho said to WP's Low Thia Khiang, "You may be well-behaving, but there may be other people whom you come across when you cycle who may stop you, may want to debate with you and that may attract a crowd, and therefore will result in problems the police want to avoid." But if you are the ruling party organising a carnival at West Coast Park, you are totally no danger to the public. In fact, you are a delight to the spectators. "Much to the delight of spectators, PM Lee and MPs like Mr Seng Han Thong made their entrance on bicycles at the PAP carnival at West Coast Park yesterday. Thousands thronged the park yesterday for the PAP carnival. Mr Lee and a host of ministers and MPs made their entrance on bicycles, much to the delight of the spectators." -Straits Times, September 1, 2008 http://www.mrbrown.com/blog/2008/09/...s-party-m.html |
E.g. "dignity"= an excuse to get more fingers into the national cookie $$$ jar... "If the annual salary of the Minister of Information, Communication and Arts is only $500,000, it may pose some problems when he discuss policies with media CEOs who earn millions of dollars because they need not listen to the minister's ideas and proposals. Hence, a reasonable payout will help to maintain a bit of dignity." [IMG URL] |

Dignity is not quantifiable by money.
If it was the president of the united states ($400,000 USD est.) would have alot of problems when he discusses any policy.
Dignity akin to respect is given. In a public servant's case...by the public.
Wearing a gold rolex for the sake of it does not equal instant dignity. It only shows insecurity due to lack of substance hence the need for it.
*my opinion
That diginity minister is really the biggest joke in singapore political history, if those old guards of our ruling party are still alive they would have predicted their party's downfall very soon... recently this guy retracted his critism on our friendly neighbour handling on the MH plane incident...it was only after getting a slap by his own party foreign affairs speaker that his view does not represent the govt view.
