High Explosive, Dual Purpose... (HEDP). Warhead can be used for both Anti-personnel and Anti-Armour.... HE, with fragmentation effects used against infantry and yet able to penetrate armour (can't remember how much mm....)

With regards to the high velocity / low velocity... think what someone said about not being able to use high velocity for M203 is right but not sure if it applies for the 40 AGL made by ST... if I'm not mistaken, the reason why M203 cannot use high velocity is because the ammo cannot fit in due to its longer length - M203 has a slide in and out config... whereas the 40 AGL breech is opened sideways (thus, can fit in lengthier ammo)
I may be all wrong on this of course... they didnt cover all this when I was in the Army... not sure if they still train recruits on SAW, LAW and M203 these days in BMT... -
Nope, BMT does not have any syllabus on SAW, LAW, M203 etc.
They streamlined BMT down to the bare basics. Fieldcraft, M-16 competency. Nowadays don need to pass IPPT to pass out as well. SOC not requirement as well. -
Armor peeps will all understand the terminology easily.

Not really lar. BMT is just one early introductory phase of NS. No point wasting too much time teaching unnecessary stuff there. Its like those ppl who pass out from BMT may not necessarily become rifleman, and use weapons such as SAW, LAW or M203. Eg, if they are posted Combat Engineers or Signals?
As for IPPT... well, got 2 years for them to suffer. No hurry lar.

I think these are important... even the LAW, M203 and SAW - no matter if one becomes a cook, clerk or storeman, every man needs to have basic infantry skills....
Hmm... if all that is not taught or required... then what they do during the 12 weeks? Go canteen everyday? I remembered my time in 7 BTS ('READY TO STRIKE") was bad... was cleaning rifles / machine gun from live-firing in the wee hours of the morning and having tasteless red-bean soup... -
Army is really farking tame nowadays, I remember in the early days of NS, there were ppl who actually went thru 2 yrs NSF w/o passing BMT and rank was still Rec especially some of those blur fark Hokkien peng .
Their unofficial vocation I think something like "JD men" ( not very sure as it is so long ago), they went thru NSF as some kind of janitor, do all kind of housekeeping work like gardening , painting, wash this wash that, basically all the sai kang. -

Anyway, they also perform guard duties with arms, go to marksmanship range etc so in a sense, they did pass BMT. Some GD men are Lcpl.
Those who fail BMT during my time are required to retake BMT. Very the siong...SOC every damn thing all over again. -
before I ORDed I was in charge of handling BMT results. To be honest it is very difficult to fail BMT nowadays. The top say BMT is a training, not a course, so there's nothing as pass or fail.

So it is confirmed that the M203 short grenades are "low velocity" and the AGL are "high velocity"?
I know that the AGL has smarter ammo that can airburst etc whereas the M203 uses "dumb" ammo.
Is there a difference in range and accuracy between the 2 types?
And also in explosive charge. Let's say a HE round. Between the 2 types, would the AGL HE round be more "powderful"?
I have fired an M203 and the kick from such a big cartridge was pretty substantial. So the longer round of the AGL must have an even bigger recoil. -
Low vel round for hand held weapon and hi vel for AGL - correct
Range is a function of velocity of the round when it leaves barrel.
Max effective range of M203 round is between 300 to 400 m.
Max effective range of AGL is , I believe around 2,000 m - what you need are proper sights and good ranging equipment for it to be effective.
As for lethality, I think both are about the same. However, if the ST Air Burst System is installed, it will be more even more lethal. -
