Send Naval Task force to Somalia?

Hi,
Do you think that Singapore should send a naval task force to Somalia? Maybe divert the LST currently deployed in the Gulf to that area. I think the 76mm Oto Melera gun is ample to deal with pirates armed with AKs and RPGs
I wonder why this is even remaining a 'problem'.... with all these publicity.... why isn't anyone doing anything about it....

Sending all these naval ships there is just a temp measure. A good medium term plan is to have cooperation between naval forces in that region with interest of having safe SLOC.
In the long term, is to improve the stability and security of Sudan itself. People who have no access to weapons but have the ability to be educated will be much less likely to resort to piracy.

i m sure you meant somalia.
Sudan is a good 600km away from Somalia's borders at the very least. much less the sea.
in fact, media reports seem to indicate most of the attacks are actually being initiated by pirates in Puntland rather than somalia as a whole.
i say send a few subs there and torpedo the whole lot of them. better still, identify their launching areas/bases and send a couple of tomahawks would be nice. afterall, they technically arent combatants, they dont have combatant rights under the geneva convention.

just need someone to report that oil or diamond was found in somalia....trust me.. the US, NATO and everyone else will rush there to liberate them immediately.

Damn right.Aiya.. how bout just sending our expensive block 52 F-16Ds and just blast them to kingdom come? At least Air Force finally see some action ma.

IMO, i think that some countries should take the action to go send in warships to go blast any pirate ships out of the water, and take no prisoner.
or at least hold public execution of the pirates, to �一儆百.

Yeah, maybe might be a good idea to station a permanent maritime strike- squadron in range. Anytime a merchant ship comes under attack by a pirate, they can just signal for help there.

I suggest have squads of warships disguised as merchant ships to slay all the pirates they encounter...In this way, the pirates will think twice about attacking merchants..
Next, flatten their base if found..with anything..a nuke...bombs..missiles...

had similar concepts in th epast.... ww1 and 2... Q-ships and raidersdecieved warships and get them in close... then shoot em..
im taking it that youre talking bout having merchies with troops onboard .. with the merchie exclusively as baithaving it this way will be not a bad idea...perhaps station some troops randomly on some ships? since it is not known if bait ship would be taken.....

Employ a merchant vessel. Load it with tons of ammo from ATGMs, 12.7s, LAWs, a company of snipers and 4 x 35mm oerlikons.
Send it on a random course around those waters and start blasting away at those pesky speedboats.
Sooner or later, pirates are going to start worrying about when a ship is the "ghost" ship.

Actually, The US is already very involved and is the cause of this pathetic situation of Somalia. They are there since Clinton administration. The Warlords (who defeated the OIC) that the US (The champion of Human Rights) is supporting are causing alot of Human tragedies there.. but the Western Propaganda News netwrok don't report it. In fact, the brother of one of those warlords are said to be engage in these activities.. notice the lack of interest from the US Navy, even though they are just at Diego Garcia ? and that these pirates are really bold.. and why not ? Having a sugar daddy helps. -

they should just divert all naval weapons testing to that area. got live targets to shoot at somemore. kill2 birds with 1 stone: test new weapons + end piracy

Well, i guess the problem with patrolling that stretch of water is really about the money. Who is gonna pay for it?

My recommanded couse of action
1. Send a merchant ship to the area unescorted with all hands off the ship and set into auto sailing mode with GPS tracking system. Allow the pirates to sieze the ship.
2. Track down the location od the ship and made peaceful requests for the ship to be returned to the owner.
3.Deliever a warning to pirates that if they do not return ship by XX-XX-XXXX, they would face severe consequences
4. Set up a total excusion zone off somilia, preferably 100 nautric miles. Shot down any non allied forces entering the area.
5. Sent in waves of figthers, bombers, missiles, gun fires to wreck the base
6. Invade the base with USMC and SBS(Special boat Squardon)
7. Secure the perimeter and extend search to others base.
