I didn't know F-20s ever paid us a visit....found this pic at this wonderful site.
should be in 1980s
Tat time Brani belonged to RSN and Keppel was a wharve not a container terminal (Expanded by reclamation)
Yeah, shld be the 80s.
Damn....the Tigershark looks really chio, such a pity it didn't find any customer.

pardon me, how is it compared w/ e original F-5 in weapon load?

My understanding is that it used the F-18's F404 engine, which gives it 70% more thrust than the 2 combined F-5E's engines.
I cant remember the exact figure, but in addition to the 2 cannons, weapons load exceed 8000 Ibs. That's much better than the F-5E, moreover the F-20 could be equipped with the AIM-7. They tried to do it with the F-5E, but the penalty caused by the radar set required was too great.
Supposedly too, the F-20 would have been fitted with electro-magnetic actuators for the moving parts that would actually allow the F-20 to out-manoeuvre even the F-16, but before the fourth prototype that would have been fitted with this was completed, the project was halted.
As it is 3 prototypes built, but only 1 survived....the other 2 lost in crashes with loss of pilots. Both cases were by no fault of the aircraft but it contributed to bad publicity.

F-404, so pop.. Even used for A-4SU

Easy to maintain and rather simple in design.
Among other things, the LEX of the F-5E was improved, the area-ruled feature deleted, which gave the F-20 more fuel capacity.
The F-20 was a totally different aircraft and avionics and equipment was actually more advanced than the F-16 then.
Taiwan's indigenious fighter is based partly on the F-20...but one of the major difference is the traditional two small powerplants which was one of the proposed F-20 design.
F-5E
F-20
wa laoz eh
probably if it went thru, F-16 eat dust
Maybe even RSAF end up lots of F-5 & F-20
Hard to say....because the F-20's main limitation was the lack of growth space unlike the F-16.
The electromagnetic actuators was a novelty, and still is....there's no knowing how much the fourth prototype would have cost if let's say problems occur, which is likely.
Anyway, vid of the Tigershark. Very chio aircraft IMO....impressive manoeuvreability too.
Exactly as SBS2601D said. You look at how the F-16A became the F-16 Block 52 D+; amazing how they managed to squeeze that much new stuff in.
In terms of payload, the F-16s still carry more munitions. ie, F-20 - 4xAGM-65Ds vs F-16 6xAGM-65Ds.

Not to mention that the F-16's single 29,000Ib engine gives it more power than many fighters for its size.
On the same note, imagine the F-15 with 2 of these engines...its thrust to weight ratio must be one of the highest if not the highest around. Only the F-15 pilots will ever attempt this kind of take-off.
