800 new buses & 40 new bus routes (8 to ply MRT) by 2016

The government will pump in S$1.1 billion to ramp up bus capacity and improve service levels.
For a start, the government will provide funding for 550 buses, from this year till 2016. At the same time, bus operators will also inject another 250 buses.
The 800 buses will mean a 20 per cent increase in capacity by 2016. The added capacity is expected to improve bus frequencies, reduce crowding and waiting times.

Feeders can still use SD, for a no are pretty short dist
Long dist rt should look into DD deployment as far as possible. Then maybe we can look at 12 mins PM peak freq, reduce the no of buses... Eventually can see more direct bus svs in CBD area?
All it takes is just getting the puzzle right

The prob now is making transfer as it's difficult to do routing rationalisation at the current climate.
Transfer between trunk - trunk for no reason is just eating up capacity esp during peak hrs.

Actually, for some very heavily-used feeders, use bendies.

Agreed.. Because once the box bendies retired and if SMRT does not intend to buy the new MB O530G Citaro bendies to replace them, the bendies would might as well become a history. At least a mix of O530 & O530G bendies is a good and to complement the Citaro family in SMRT. -

Please no more bendies. More buses on the roads means longer queues of buses, don't use bendies to make things worst.
SMRT bus, please get double deckers instead.

Hope they should bring more Scania OmniCity, Volvo B5L, Volvo B9TL, Citaro, MAN ND243F/East Lancs Kinetec, MAN NL323F and Wright Gemini 2. And also New Bus for London.

How to get bendy when Amdep itself cant cope with its bus fleets especially parking woes?They should either move to a new depot or lease the empty land infront of the entrance.Lion city 3 axles 350hp will be nice for them.Also Kranji lease will expire in a year time and I've already heard rumors they will shift to either Bukit Batok or Toh Tuck area.Those Bus plus excluding 825 should all park at Lor 1 instead.Arbp sooner will also move to a new site since Govt got plans to upgrade Ayer Rajah cres

Logically speaking, I think we'll see lots of MANs since ST Kinectics is the sole distributor of MAN trucks and buses and since the government is responsible for purchasing 550 of them. Does anyone know how many new buses we can expect to see including the fleet expansions and fleet replacements for the ageing MK4s and VO3X?

More buses = need more new bus captains
Hopefully SBS Transit and SMRT can really find enough new drivers to cope with the going to expand bus fleet. If not the current batch of drivers will overwork and more accidents might occur.
Well, I think SBS Transit have a good number of Wrights, Scanias KUB and Citaros already.
Perhaps SBS can venture into Volvo Single Deck buses? Volvo buses are quite comfortable.
Maybe SBS can also consider MAN. lol. but then again, Citaros are quite a good choice also since they are rather comfortable, maybe theys should do something about the aircon.
For SMRT, since bendies may no longer be an alternative, they can really consider DDs.
I believe Wrights are a good choice of DDs around, it will be good to see both SBST and SMRT having Wrights.
SMRT definitely needs more Citaros and MAN to replace their current fleet which are going to be due soon. I dun get why they only order 50 Citaros. MAN is rather good too. :)
Hopefully new routes will be introduced to ply along MRT lines to reduce overcrowding in the MRT.

Wholly agree.
No more bendies. They are amongst the worst nuisance on the roads. Its not like our infrastructure has been really designed to accept such buses in the first place.
And if SMRT carries on viewing buses as an unviable business for them, why not make it come true for them and just axe them from the buses?
