Since thread has reached 2000 posts, opening up a new one. Didn't know this thread would be popular when I started it.
To start with, I am asking a question which I haven't received an answer for.
" How does the new bus service numbering work under LTA? "
Any regular takers of 197 here who feels that the frequency of this service is poor? As the frequency can get as long as 15 minutes interval during peak hour and consecutive single decker buses.

197 loadings dip over the years thats why you see a mixture of SDs.The traffic condition make it worsen.

Most still follow operators style while others is just random.Suprised of the year is 127 & 129 use by Tampines route group.
Horrible jam at Tampines Int right now.
No wonder see 1 svc DD use Tampines Ctrl 1 from Ave 4

Jam is basically paralyzing the south side of Tampines Int (the side with 969 et al). The traffic controllers are inept at directing the flow of buses!
Just boarded 969, 10 mins already the bus is still stuck in the interchange!
(Side note: Despite the long wait for the bus, there are people who are happy to wait for the next bus still!)
...
I heard that the jam started from 3 pm, was surprised because I thought it started only during the rush hour ... ?
Since I'm still stuck at the interchange, some thoughts:
While 18 and 39 will be relocated to Tampines Concourse Int, 127 will probably take the booth of one of the services above, so the south side (so to speak) will still be a cluster mess?!?
...
After 19 minutes the bus I am on has finally departed the interchange!
More observations:
The buses were "deadlocked" for a good 10 minutes ... until a SBST DD made a three-point turn at the entrance to get out of the interchange ... and then 2x svc 3, 1x svc 67, 1x svc 969 bus decided that they could do without picking up passengers from the interchange and headed out, which allowed the rest of the buses to move ... Seeing as the situation appeared to be resolved I quickly boarded a departing 969 ... only to get stuck in another gridlock ...

That's insane. They should have gone off service to a point and then started operation rather than l leaving from interchange. Poor management

Yes those heading to Khatib/Yishun do want a seat especially when 969 can get stuck at TpE.

197 is a back up service hence frequency is not great + super long routing causes bunching/delays.
service options:
97 from JE to Normonton Park
14 from Kent Ridge to Bukit Meehan Town Center
147, 196, 961 from Alexandra/Bukit Merah junction to Outram/Chinatown
2, 12, 33, 63 from New Bridge to Kallang
7 from Bugis to Paya Lebar
43 from Tanjong Katong to Bedok South Ave 1
31, 196 from Tanjong Katong/Amber to Bedok Mrt.
Clearly there are way too many options.

Yesterday with the gridlock at Tampines Int, ironically it took much more time for the bus to simply get out of the interchange (20 mins) than to travel to the TPE stop (12 mins)!

Don't get what you mean here, can you clarify? Sounds like you are contradicting yourself ...

Hi mr orange28, tampines bus interchange is what I called a grossly overcrowded area with buses, shops and human traffic. From 19 dec 2016, 2 bus services (18 and 39) will shft out and 1 new bus 127 will come in. On hindsight, it should have helped. To look further, I hope the authorities should stop giving new bus services to tampines main int and just give it to tampines concourse. With DTL3 tampines west and tampines east mrt coming next yr, demand for bus services will definitely drop. Some effort should be spent to streamline the services at tampines area. Cheers. Thanks.

Agree mostly with what you said. As I suggested earlier svc 127 will probably take either of svcs 18/39 berth on that side of the interchange, rather than the other (south) side with svcs 969/67 etc. so the gridlock may have happened anyway. Though as you rightly pointed out, DTL3 is coming, and on the south side of Tampines Int, there are svcs 22 and 65 that highly duplicate sections of DTL3. Hopefully something will be done to either service so as to relieve overcrowding at the interchange. Cheers.

He means that instead of all six buses starting from int, maybe 3 can OS and start trip halfway so freq isnt messed up

This might not be relevant, but BNDEP gave a crappy CDGE Voith as a replacement for VO3X on 5.

Actually svc like 17,34,43/M,62,82,83,84,85,119,136,382 & 386 should stay with SBST and let svc like 4,5,18,19,29,37,39,81,109,291,292 & 293 goes to GA instead.
I feel that 43 under SBST time had so many SDs because SBST wanted to force people to take 116 (with many empty buses on weekdays from Serangoon side).

Same with 851 and the North-South Line loh.

I thought 43 and 116 serve different crowds of people?

46 is at the berth furthest away from MRT and already gets less than 5 pax most of the times. If new services are launched at Tampines Concourse Int without passing by MRT bus stop or major transfer points (e.g. Tampines Reg Lib), loading will surely be disastrous from the interchange.

Residents at Hougang Ave 9 can take 116 from Serangoon as well, just that 43 serves Buangkok Green.

And then they have to go through the winding route in Serangoon North. More likely they will take 109 from interchange instead.
Any possibility that the recent order of 15 units of ADL Enviro 500 is actually to replace 15 units of existing ADL Enviro 500?
If I remember correctly, some participants here mentioned before that the Enviro 500 under SMRT are making noises. My guess is that some of those buses could be beyond repair, and can only be replaced.
But, they not scared the order kanna detained at HK customs meh?
