and melbounrne assembled
maybe we cna spot the differences of a perth volgren and a melborune volgren when....the buses arrive in 2005
the enginner mentioned something abt replacing mark 2s for these new pruchase
they shall be using CNG to run. most likely go SLBP?

It might be surprising to some of us who insist that "SBST-will-not-order-any-buses-other-than-Volvos". It is not surprising at all for me, 'cos I believe something like this might happen, and voila - It did! The problem is that Volvo has no ALTERNATIVE gas-powered chassis available, after B10BLE production lines were closed. SBST has to go with either Merz or Scania, and it chose the former.

I guess the O500s are cheaper than the L94UBs. But I'd like the latter to replace the CRBs when their lifespan is up.

Hmmm.. Ordering 100 new CNG buses.. Well.. Do you think that 100 bus is enough to replace 200 MK 2s.. ?? i dont really think so.. Maybe.. they are also buying other types of buses as well.. most likely Volvo buses... this is what i think...

i suppose u r referring to B7RLE. other chassii that can support CNG (and some biogas too) are B10L, B10LA and B10BLE. the new fuels coming your way are hydrogren, hybrid (joint gas and battery, like the Toyota Prius car) and DME (dimethyl ethter).
the B12BLE does not supoprt gas as a fuel source yet. i wonder where u can put the CNG tank on a DD. currently, for heavy-duty needs, you have to rely on B10LA or MAN's artic's.
note that B10M is no longer offered. whether it is out of production not so sure yet. -

hi!! i think it's quite a pity to see those Mk2s off the roads... what about those refurbished MK2s which are air-conditioned? Are they going to sell those refurbished ones as well? Those buses are quite "new". My town (Hougang) is dominated by Volvo buses (esp. MK2,3 and 4s). Wonder if the new buses would operate on those services here...

Hey! just asking out of curiosity. Does anybody knows how many Mk2s they are going to replace cause they bought only 100 O500s. Will they be replacing the refurbished Mk2s? What about the Scania CRBs?Does anybody know when it will be replaced?

A total of 199 B10M-61 Mk II's will be withdrawn, from SBS1696L to SBS1895D, from Mar 2005 right up till 2006. this includes the air-con-refurbished Mk II's. SBS1836A was sold to a used coach dealer in New Zealand and put up for sale for NZD$63,500 (SGD$73,500).Originally posted by ah_kwang:Hey! just asking out of curiosity. The retiring of these buses will start from 28th Mar 2005, with SBS1696L serving its last day on that day. The last Mk II's will retire after a year on 5th April 2006.
Note that the order of air-con refurbishment is erratic so I cannot give exact figures on how many are refurbished or not. As a guide (not verified), there are about 91 NAC Mk II's (64 W. Alexander, 27 Duple Metsec bodywork).

i really find it funny. why bother to air-condition those MK2s and CRBs when they are going to be retired. Isn't it a waste of $$. Anyway, any guess where these new buses will go to? My guess would be HGDEP and BBDEP since they have a number of MK2s (esp. HGDEP). But i'm wondering whether will it really go to HGDEP as HGDEP has always been dominated by Volvos. Do take a shot of Hougang/Sengkang buses operating out of HGDEP having a merc O405. Anyway correct me if i'm wrong.

we have no confirmed news of the O.500LE orders. SBST is definitely not buying anything other than O.500LE from Mercedes-Benz.
and no guesses where the new buses will go to.
we can wait till we are sure these O.500Le's are coming before we answer this.
and dun worry, those O.405's in hgdep are perm. they belong to svc 100 and were x-fer to hgdep from amdep following shift of control of 100 to hgdep. eventually these buses will move back to amdep, like many of their former 100 O.405 counterparts. these buses are:

Regarding O.500LE orders, beware that it may be a diesel and not CNG version. also, the status of the order is not confirmed as yet. -
