Education: Fairuza attended the Royal Academy of Ballet, the Ramona Beauchamp Agency and the Bush Davies Performing Arts School. She attended in the UK just after Easter break for a 21/2 year term where her workouts kept her buys throughout the day. A typical week included the following: dance from 8am to 10:30am, break, school work from 11am to 1pm, lunch, school work at 2pm till 4pm and dance from 5pm to 6pm on Monday and Friday. Saturdays she had a 2hour ballet class and Sunday having no dance class at all, but did have to attend church, Witch Fairuza did manage to skip allot. Her and a friend decided since they were Wicca it was against their religion. Fairuza had originally planned to attend the Art Education School, but after meeting six other girls attending Bush Davies. including some of the future co-stars in "The Worst Witch" she applied there instead.
"As I was being born my father claims that he was playing his fiddle/violin to soothe my mother and when my head came out he says that I looked right into his eyes and that my eyes were the color of electric turquoise and in Persian the word for turquoise is Fairuza,it also means Sacred or Precious one....don't ask me....." Favorite Bands: "I love The Germs, The Dead Kennedys, Black Flag, Circle Jerks. They are all pretty much old school but they're still great, I am a die hard Ministry devotee as well as Frontline Assembly, Front 242, I used to be really into industrial but lately not as much, right now in terms of new bands....Butter8, Radiohead, Blur, I basically love almost all music, it all has it's place somewhere you know? I like many different kinds of music not just rock and punk and stuff but also a lot of ethnic stuff. Also I think that a lot of young people don't realize the importance and greatness of a lot of classical, after all that's where most music comes from right?!" -

Fairuza got 9 Tattoos which gave her a shroud of Mystic Gothic Air befits a Title of "Hip Dark Aesthetic Gypsy Beauty" .
( 1 )Her first tattoo is on her stomach low down just above and to the right of her "family jewels," and is of a crescent moon with a face. She got it at 13 to commemorate her dedication to the moon, who she has always felt a great kinship with, that of a sister, guide or mother almost.
( 2 )Second was a sun that she got directly opposite her little moon because she feels what is existence without polarity. She got it all done without even knowing the literary or traditional significance of the two.
( 3 )Her third tattoo was on her left hip, which is a heart encircled with thorns that is winged and at the top is the goddess symbol of the full moon (dark) with the two crescents on either side and a wall of fire behind it (one of her favorites).
( 4 )Her fourth tattoo, which she got when she was young, is an anarchy symbol with the radioactive symbol around it, and has since been massively transformed into Lillies with a pentagram in the middle of really quite delicate tribal blackwork.
( 5 )The fifth tattoo is the one on her lower back which is Sanskrit for Om mane padme hum which is in part a dedication to her mother who had her christened a Tibetan buddhist and also because of the meaning of the word.
( 6 )The sixth tattoo is the band on her right arm which is a design of hooks that go in and out of her arm in a kind of art deco pattern.
( 7 )The seventh tattoo is the Blue Triangle outlined by black which is the sign the the nazi's put as patches onto the clothes of the gypsies in the war camp and she got it to commemorate her heritage.
( 8 )Her eighth tattoo is two cats with intertwined tails on the back of her shoulder to commemorate her two babies who sadly left this earth this last year.
(9)And finally, her ninth tattoo, is on her ankle and is Chinese script for the year of the tiger which is her Chinese astrological birth year and the script for the spirit of the heart. -
Fairuza loves to play piano and guitar, her main enjoyment is singing.
Favorite authors (to name a few): William Burroughs, James Joyce, Isabelle Allende, Michael Bulgakov, Jung, Oscar Wilde, and recently Ernest Hemingway and Balzac.
Favorite Artists: H.R. Giger, Egon Schiele, Gustav Klimt, Vargas, Rousseau.
She loves to dance. -
About the Sandman Movie: "I have been in contact with Neil Gaiman who wrote and created the Sandman comics and the project has been in the works for a few years now and still hasn't been green lit yet but I'm still hoping. I am a huge fan of them, but he asked me if I would play death and I replied that I would be very honored so who knows? I'm keeping my fingers crossed!!!"
Breast Implants: "I hate them. I think they're evil. Just imagine if anyone ever tried to exhume your body in 20 years all that they would find is a pile of dust and two bags of plastic saline/silicone...gross."

Fairuza Balk is such a lady, some Women are just not mainstream. Just a glance you will know she is more likely to be a vegetarian, with All he Tattoos & Gothic Look which she is Fabulous in Black. Never heard about her? You have surely seen her in several movies, like the tough love interest for Adam Sandler in “Waterboy”, or the beautiful hippie Saphire Loveson in “Almost Famous”. But she is perhaps most memorable in “The Craft”, a movie almost written to suit her wicked look: It’s about four girls at a Los Angeles Catholic school form a coven of witches that cast spells on their classmates and each other.
Fairuza Balk started as an actress very young. She had the title role as Dorothy in Walt Disney Pictures the release of “Return to Oz” in 1985, that remains more faithful to the darker world described in Baum’s writings. And she was the skinhead girlfriend to Ed Norton’s lead In “American History X”.

Fairuza lives in Venice, CA, but also keep an apartment in New York City. As befits a Wiccan, she has 5 cats named: MoMo, Scout, Oscar, Sweetpea Poteet Tennessee, and Mouse. She is dyslexic and has nine tattoos and a nose ring, besides a triangle tattoo on her shoulder because the Nazi soldiers branded the symbol on the gypsies in concentration camps (she is of partly Persian and Gypsy heritage). This is her way of paying respect to her culture and remembering the suffering her ancestors endured.
Her short, jet-black hair is striking against her ivory skin, but Fairuza’s most amazing features are her huge, piercing, blue eyes. When she was born, her father took one look at her eyes and exclaimed “Fairuza!” -
Growing up but never down
Fairuza Alejandra Balk had just been born, May 21, 1974. Her father Solomon Feldthouse was a travelling musician, and her mother Cathryn Balk was a belly dancer.
Fairuza grew up just north of San Francisco on a commune-type ranch. Her mother later found some work in Vancouver; it was there that Fairuza got her first acting job in a TV-movie, at age 9. Two years later, they moved to England where Fairuza attended the Royal Academy of Ballet, the Ramona Beauchamp Agency and the Bush Davies Performing Arts School.
Fairuza would work for Disney for a while; at age 11 she was chosen from out of 1,200 girls to play the part of Dorothy, starring in “Return to Oz” (1985). A year later she would star as, prophetically enough, “The Worst Witch”, a omen of her breakout role in “The Craft” 10 years later. Fairuza and her mother remained in London until 1988, and then headed to Paris where the 15-year-old Fairuza starred in “Valmont”.
The next year they returned to Vancouver where Fairuza enrolled in high school. But, despite being a movie star, Fairuza was shy in class; she ended up doing correspondence courses. Back in Hollywood, Fairuza starred in a string of movies, including “Gas Food Lodging” (1992) for which she received an Independent Spirit Award for Best Actress. Following further TV and film work, the beautiful Fairuza, now 5’3” and 100 lbs, achieved cult status with her starring role as a teenage witch in her signature movie “The Craft” (1996). -

Witchcraft
Fairuza in real life, she owns an Occult Craft Wiccan shop in Hollywood, which bought during the making of “The Curse”. In 2001, she sold 50% of the business and became a co-owner. Later she sold her share of the store to the current owners. -
What about witchcraft?
“The whole phenomenon that's happening with Wicca is very fascinating,” she admits. “More and more people are getting fed up with religions not being able to give them answers or stable proof. Wicca gives women, especially, a great sense of themselves because of the goddess ideology.
A woman is the mother; sheÂ’s the nurturer, the life-giver. SheÂ’s as close to God as you can get because she can create life. It gives women the sense that it's okay to be big. It's okay to be different. It's okay to want to have children. ItÂ’s okay to be feminine. It also teaches women how to take control of their lives. It teaches them how to meditate. It's a very positive thing for people in general; because there is no martyr. There is no self -flagellation. There's no guilt.
It's all about positively and empowering yourself and discovering who you are as opposed to the restrictive thing many religions are,” Fairuza explained in an interview to Shout magazine (March 2001).
The same year she appeared in “The Island of Dr. Moreau”, in which she did some belly dancing, and attracted the attention of Lancashire, England-born co-star David Thewlis. It was rumored that they were dating. They did two more movies together: “American Perfekt” ( 1997 ) and “Great Sex” ( 2000 ). Fairuza was the love interest in the wildly popular flick “The Waterboy” ( 1998 ) and had a major role in “American History X”. With a half dozen movies for 2000, Fairuza is much in demand.
Fairuza: “Right now I am currently writing and working on an (music) album. Things are going splendidly and I am very pleased on the whole. I have four 3-week-old kittens and I am trying to find homes for them. I am planning on moving back to New York City this summer and am looking forward to the move…” -
