    • ok, if nothing changes from my era to now, ALL GCC TRAINEES GET TO BOOK OUT AS NORMAL, NO CONFINEMENT. For K2406 did they particulary stated wad vocation u are? If not and you are A-lvl or DIP most prob u will get into support company. If thats the case, you need not worry too much, because SP coy is mostly vehicle based ppls as compared to the riflemen form A,B,C coy. Except for scouts, sig platoon, all the other SP folks are ferried by vehicles.
As for all those grumbling regarding why you did not go cammand sch. Look at it this way, yes commanders have more pay and privilege, but when reservist comes, they suffer. Why? Bcos they have more days worth of ICT, more responsibilities. eg. planning, stores,etc......... So why man are resting, they are still doing. Do not use what you see in Tekong as a yardstick for life of a spec in unit. In unit, when your men do wrong you also get punish. When you shout at your men, they act blur and carry on doing other things. No doubt, BMTC specs seems to lead a heavenly life in Tekong, in unit, it's a totally different story.........

My vocation is simply GDSMAN. I assume it stands for Guardsman?

I think it's normal rifleman, since scouts have RECCE in their vocation or sth...

This is the holy truth. Twisted Evil

When you're in a unit, your 3SG rank will not appear as "godly" as those you see in BMTC. In fact, BMTC is the only place where 3SGs have that much authority over a soldier.

In my old unit, we call 1SGs and SSGs by name. Laughing

same here. guess we're just riflemen with a nice vocation name.

anyway, anyone roughly know how big is this batch's intake. shouldnt be too big right. guess we might bump into each other. :S

I actually got selected for the 3 Guards scout selection. Apparently I showed enough disinterest to get out of scouts but not 3 Guards. The CPT who interviewed us said that the intake would be around 100 odd...including riflemen, scouts etc.

BTW which coy were you from in BMT, if you don't mind me asking?

    • Actually this number of 100 plus ppls being selected is normal. I mean each coy will will be staffed and filled with more than enough ppls. This is to facilitate replacing a particular vocationalist that may have downgrade or are temporary downgrade. I'm just quite sure that you are not going to be in signal plt. Bcos these ppl go to cost straight to sig inst, then get posted to GDS. But for scouts, mortar, ATGM, they are posted to GDS then sent for courses.
Btw, scout is the recon element for the battalion while recce is for brigade. Same function different names.

    • Battalion scouts are of platoon size

Brigade recce company (BRC) are of company size which in reality only consist of 2 active Platoons, 1 NSmen Platoon

BRC are inserted much deeper than scouts into the enemy lines, but the irony is the scouts are more comprehensive-trained as BRC
