Ppl awol go where

Just kindda curious..
Do you have friends or know of ppl who awol for a long period of time like say 1, 2 years?
What do they do and where do they go during this long time? -
fly to other countries and hide.

There was this malay driver in my camp.
He went awol in 16th September 2004.
Till now,no news of him. -

There is no hurry to catch awolees. If they are overseas, no point hunting down for them. If they are in Singapore, the longer they are away, the harsher is the punishment, plus you got to clock the same NS time as well.
RSAF is very kind, I heard about 1 ex-technician who now lives in Bangkok and served his ICTs with the RSAF detachments when they are in thailand. That was some years ago, and if that were true, it really is a win-win situation. -

Well, believe it or not, some of them lead normal lives like the rest of us, except that they just woke up one day and decided not to book in anymore. In fact, I heard stories from an officer in my camp that he once saw an awolee doing window shopping at a shopping centre in the East area (Why he did not took any action, I have absolutely no idea).Originally posted by constancebay:Just kindda curious..

As opposed to some of the fancy tales of awoless leaving Singapore for good and taking up residence in JB or Batam, some of them simply stay with their close friends to avoid potential house-calls.

My node gt 3 ppl on AWOL status probably abt 20 soldiers AWOL for my whole unit?

I once saw at Maju Camp when I was taking IPPT 3-4 months back that they stick a piece of paper near the guardpost, and on the paper it is a picture of a PTE who AWOLed for around 2 weeks already.
Sometimes really feel pity for these people. For personal reasons, they may be throwing away their whole life just to escape 2 years. -

Otherwise, usually your unit or PC/2IC will be the one kachau-ing you at your last registered address. -
