since CMPB medical test, i got excused from loud noise like grenade. i am still able to fire a rifle though. does that mean when i got posted after BSLC, there's a high chance i don't get posted to ASLC, sniper, arty and armour? i'm pretty sure these places have lotsa loud noise stuff right?

    • BSLC is a 3 months course with confinement for 1st week i think. Its just a basic leadership course sort of thing and after that you will be posted to other camps for 3 months for your vocational training before you get your 3SG rank.

    • BSLC has no confinement for the first weekend now, 8 weeks course. ASLC has.

Expect more freedom and liberty as the schedule is less packed than BMT. The training will be tough, but there will be more free time, usually. Unless you get sent to a company that wastes time like mad.

The culture shock usually comes when you move on from BSLC into vocational training. SISPEC is also known as SISLACK now so BSLC sure can manage one, but the vocational trainings are much much tougher.

    • I am now in BSLC and going into my 2nd week. But I have a very bad ache in my lumbar spine and I went to the specialist le. Now awaiting for MRI scan to determine if there is really anything wrong. But in any case, is there a chance of OOT? Cause advices given to me is to try to OOT because spinal injuries don't play play. Plus I got no more motivation already.. Advices????

      Hi Jimjoker,

That will depend on where you get posted to. Different courses will have different period of training time.

      Cheers.

    • Which system of progression for Specialists do you think is better?

The old system of Pte - Cpl - Sgt   ?

      or

The new system of SCT - Sgt   ?

Old system pay lower but CPL rank at least puts u above most of the men already.

New system higher pay but your rank is so low that you have no power at all

    • IMHO, if you're a trainee in SISPEC courses, you'd probably be too engrossed in the packed training schedule as to really have any use for the Cpl rank to pull about in your training unit; wearing the Cpl rank has no 'power' application at all because there'd no men under you. Unless you say it's to flaunt it outside camp, to kinda 'show off'.

So probably MINDEF have thought it thoroughly and felt that it doesn't really compromise on the status of so-called rank 'power' for the trainees. SCT cannot pull rank. I guess as a Specialist trainee holding Cpl rank doesn't actually give you any chance of pulling rank for the duration of the Specialist training course.

But the slight advantage of slightly higher pay of a SCT compared to a Cpl, does speak volumes of the weightage and recognition given to the wannabes of the Specialist Corps.

The CPL rank doesn't do much but at least you cannot be fucked by LCPs etc :p

Our WOs always use to tell us that when you see the OCTs in their white bars, fuck them all you like before their bars turn black :p Now theres SCTs to join them. Anyway, alot of ppl are saying the SCT's main purpose is to not make the OCTs the lowest rank in the army after REC :p
