well yeah... but similiarly, they will be killed by eh... ... ... I forgot wat is the method called but the bees will swarm them, until become like a ball then keep flapping the wings... it will cause temperature to rise alot... enuff to kill a hornet...
only the Japanese bees know how to do that.. the European bees just get massacred
and for the Japanese bees, the trick is to get the hornet (note the singular term) when it is scouting the nest.. if more than a couple of the giant hornets come to the nest, the nest is doomed...
here's one for today.. the Deep Sea Dragonfish
it's got so many teeth even its tongue's got teeth!

Well the brackish water (convertable to freshwater) version is ugly too though not that scary looking
today's instalment is the American Desert Grassland Whiptail Lizard
doesn't look weird or anything right?
well, they are ALL female.. there is no male lizard in the species at all
they even simulate sexual acts as if between a male and female... and it was found that when they do, they reproduce even more successfully..
so how to they breed?
Is it like those sexchange snails where they form daisy chains and suddenly miraculously turn male? or female?
it's some kinda asexual reproduction.. i think scientific term is pathenogenesis... an unfertilised egg still will hatch...
also seen in ants, termites and bees, but almost never in vertebrates
update time...
here's today's instalment..
Naked Mole Rat
Found in East Africa, the naked mole rate lives in colonies which structure is not unlike ants or bees where there is a dominant female which breeds while the rest are workers...
an interesting quirk is that the naked mole rat lacks a certain substance which sends pain signals to the nervous system.. in other words, the naked mole rat does not feel pain...
living underground, they use their teeth to burrow and tunnel around, enlarging their quarters and looking for tubers which is their primary source of food...
i've been neglecting this topic...
so here's today's instalment...
Kali River Giant Devil Catfish aka Goonch Catfish
found in the Kali River in India, it is thought that this ferocious catfish was behind many attacks on humans.. it certainly has a mouth big enough to swallow a small human and teeth enough to do substantial damage
they have been feasting on human remains from the half-burnt funeral pyres of death rites in India and may have developed a taste for human flesh which may account for the attacks...
certainly a weird creature.. but more terrifying than weird
It's also known as the Sandshark
The ones we have in Singapore are from Vietnam, and I understand it's a great delicacy in Vietnam that it's overfished
So maybe they can export those from India to Vietnam for the food market
Haha
today's instalment is.. the Turken or the Transylvanian Naked Neck Chicken
mistakenly thought (due to its name) to be a cross breed between a turkey and a chicken, it's actually a breed of chicken originating from Europe...
looks like it's got some kinda disease or it's gotten its neck plucked but that's the way it is...
let's update this.. coz i have some time before i go to work...
here's something weird...
it's a squid.. it's a worm.. it's a SQUID WORM!!!
it's a worm.. yet it has tentacles like a squid..
scientist think this is a "transitional" species which is in-between two types of species in the midst of evolution

world's smallest frog was found recently in Borneo.. this is the fully grown adult
another update time.. this time, it's kinda.. weird and cute and... weird...
Yoda Bat
doesn't it look like Yoda?
it's actually a "tube nosed fruit bat" but has been christened the "Yoda Bat".. not really documented yet as it is still being classified and checked out for what kind of species it is...

I see... The Force is strong with this one indeed~
this one is cute.. it's the
Longhorn Cowfish
it's a species of boxfish and is slow-swimming and easily caught by hand... but if stressed enough, it can secrete deadly toxins through its skin..

wth~ i click quote and the 2nd pic enlarged... scary sia~~~
I was trying to ask if the horn can be used to impale or are they actually soft?
the fish is this shape as its scales are fused into a bony plate.. the "horns" are pretty much the same.. not used for impalement or anything, they're pretty much harmless
Taenioides cirratus aka Bearded worm goby
here's a cute little... Vampire Deer
these are actually Water Deer and no.. it's not photoshopped.. those are its tusks... which it uses as weapons...
Native to China and introduced to a few places like Britain, Europe and the US, the tusks are used during the rutting season and considering where they originate from, probably hungry PRCs trying to snare them for the pot

you can read all about it => here
the latest instalment is the White-Faced Scops Owl..
it's a non-descript owl which is pretty cute and small, about 7 to 10 inches (18 - 25cm) tall
what makes it weird is that it can transform in the face of threats...
