I am not sure what religion you are inclined into, but there is a saying in buddhism "The difference between good and evil is only a thin line".
I interpret it as "if u harbour evil thoughts to eradicate the evil, you are no different from them".
Osama is no different from Ronald Reagan and the US administration that killed innocent Lebanese children, much as he doesn't see it that way. He returned evil (what he sees) with evil (what he sees not).
But I hope he can surf wireless internet from the mountains at Afghanistan, and read what I have to say about him here.

We are all older (not wanting to sound condescending) and would think that young people of your generation could do with some advice (your offensive statements cannot do you and the imperfect world a lot of good, the way we people here see it ) although much of it was coded in the form of retorts and defensive statements. -

My own view of punishment is the same as well. The idea of punishment is not so much about the pain it inflicts, but rather to act as a deterance. Also, two wrongs don't make a right. Being as vile, mean and crude as the people you speak out or try to make a stand out against makes you no better than them.
When you punish someone, the person has to know and understand for what he or she is being punished for. What is the reason behind being punished and not being punished for nothing. On top of that, punishment has to fit the crime. Being too severve or extreme in your punishment is not the right way to go either. -

But still, there's nothing wrong with developing good healthy relationships with other people, having personal aspirations or just having plain interests in general. As it is with many things, it's ok as long as you don't go extreme or overboard with it.
I wouldn't say there is a universal solution for everything, different problems require different approach and different methods. So to be hard-handed for every situation is rather inappropriate.

I think we all see where you are coming from and understand what is your approach to things. Maybe some years later you might think differently, maybe you might not.
I'll just say this, different situation requires different approaches, not one method/approach can be adopted to every problem. Just like how you can't take one medicine for all illnesses. -
