hi naturians !
i tried planting chilli padi plant in flowerpots along the corridor outside my house
everytime when the chilli padi plant sprouts it will grow sturdy and strong
then will grow until almost with 4 - 5 tender leaves, each of these seems to uproot by themselves & me and my mum are puzzled. none of my chilli padi plant lifespan grew beyond that stage
we investigated and found that all the uprooted ones had their roots eaten by whatever insects inside the soil.
we see a lot of ants in the soil crawling in and out
what's seems strange is we have other plants too, and the supposedly culprits - the ants, does not seem to nibble at their roots
we suspect insects might only be interested in the roots of tender/young plants cos they taste delicious. is this true?
any idea here anyone knows how to overcome this problem?
Try very diluted copper sulphate solution (5 flakes for 2 gallons pail). Spray on the plants or pour into soil sparingly. Keep the insects from eating the roots or shoots.
Hope this help.
PS Chili padi seeds need to be treated in vinegar or mild HCL or H2SO4 before planting to be successful.

Thank you so much for this Wonderful information which I don't think i can get from anywhere else. My neighbours don't plant cili padi among their other plants so they don't really know also
As of today, all my cili padi plant is DEAD
the next time when i going to plant cili padi again, i will treat in Vinegar first. for those chemicals such as HCL, H2SO4 and CuSO4, i will try later as I need to slowly get them one by one
Wish you success next round. Chili padi seeds need to go through bird stomach's acid phase before they can grow.
