Is it advisable to get 2nd hand car for first timer?
My dad nags at me all the time. He says to get 2nd hand car thats left with 1 year or so, scrapping off time. So no matter how u bang it, scratch or what. You wont feel the pain?
Lol, hmm.. i so i dont know what to do. Anyone got ideas or so?
And the pricings too? How to tell how much the 2nd hand car is worth in terms of branding, model, and life span left?
Im super new in all this.. dont know anything, anyone can help? lol
=DDD
yup, your dad is right :D
i'd think a cheap and reliable car that's low on the insurance premium as well.
just don't get so attached to it because scratches and dents will come in time.
not sure what whether you want a sedan or hatchback though, but there's lots of options available.
prices vary, so do look through several dealers and see which offer a better value.
i think since u are so noob at this...
its better to juz stick to an authorised dealer..
unless u can get a seasoned friend to help u...
ur father is juz speaking from monetary point of view...
how bout other aspects like safety, reliability, availability of spare parts...
if u are spending so much for something... having absolute peace of mind is priceless...
and the only way to this is usually the AD route...
Buy kalisa or some other small cars.
eco friendly car !
If you want to get a 2nd hand car, can consider Mercedes Benz W124 known for its rock solid quality and stability.
Engine runs quietly and can outbeat any of the new cars out there now!
Have been driving one since I passed my driving and experience is great!
Depends if u have the money a not lar .
If ur rich . First hand car why not ?
U buy first hand at least u know no body drive b4 . And can last like 10 years .
if you donno how to maintain a car then better avoid a new car.
with more ERP gantries, more people can own cars now. ![]()

Hmm, I don't know, I sense envy in your statement.
Get a new car/relatively new second hand car, prices don't depreciate much for first 2 years(depending on model and branding), also note that steel prices are on the rise, so newbuilt cars and secondhand cars might actually not fall on a rapid depreciation. Furthermore cars although have a standard depreciation per year, they are generally calculated logically by a 2nd hand buyer on a accelerating depreciation value for the first few years then it falls like a bell-shaped curve, meaning depreciation on the first few years are not that great and depreciation on the last few years are lesser too.

i would op for new cars,
1-nobody drive b4
2-safety
3-lots of car to choose ;D
go for a new, small car!
new car - you'll love it more and drive it more carefully.
small - no family right? still young right?

Cheers. Agreed with the top, your car, you will cherish it and have a sense of possession to protect it from all damages to the best of your ability. Small cars don't cost much, if you can get a car already, I don't see the difference in topping up a few thousand dollars.
new or old car sure loose money one, but old car won't loose that much as compare to new car
I would suggest you get new car if you dont plan to change in near future as new car you no need to scare of having any problem , or any car breakdown as compared to used car .
But if you want to get 2nd car , it not so heart pain and you can get to change car like when it is scrap ...
I guess you also have to look at the condition of the car. If you buy 2nd hand car, best is dun find those very old ones. Nowadays technology keep improving and there are better cars with excellent fuel consumptions.
Some cars even got key-less system liao. My car kns only 3 years machiam scrap metal. Even have to use key... Haizz.... Can't sold also coz lose money i have to top up cash.
so.. what are the important things to take note of when getting a car?
Horse power?
Safety?
Fuel consumption?

you are going enlistment soon?? then why bother??
how old are you?? u have a stable income to own a car??? or is your father sponsoring you??
if you serously know nuts about car.. like i said above dun get a second hand car.. you nv know what it has been through.. for all u know.. u might be getting a lemon..
if you have to think so much btw getting a 9 year old second hand car or a small first hand car .. u r not financially ready.
my advice: DUN get a car
ask your dad to help u get a second hand car, since he got so much idea.
if you cannot finance it, then dun bother to get a car, it is a burden.
but nothing beat getting a brand new car.
