    • I am looking to buy a new car and since i'm quite a new driver i would like some opinions from the forumites here regarding the following models.

      Following are my criterias

-Budget is between $40k to $60 (Value for money is the best as am on limited budget)

      -Good Mileage

-Good 2nd Hand Value (Never know when you wanna upgrade)

-Decent pickup speed probably about 10 to 13 secs (/100km)

      -Easy to obtain spare parts

I would like to get some opinions from the forumites on the following cars.

      1)Suzuki SX4 (Hatchback)

      2)Mitsubishi Lance Ex 1.5 Sports (A)

3)Kia Cerato Variant 2 (I understand there is a sports version but can't find the specs so let's take the 1.6 Premium with Skyroof)

    • AFAIK, all the above you shortlisted do not meet your (hold value to upgrade) requirement. They also do not have a reputation of good FC. But FC is highly dependent on how u drive and ur driving profile so its hard to guage now. If you really do want a car that holds its value in the budget segment, toyotas and hondas are the way to go. Personally, I would ask you to have a looksee at the Mazda 2. Pretty good value to me.

But if i die die have to choose one from the list, the SX4 has my vote.

    • Thanks for the replies.

Yeah will definitely look into the Toyota Vios as well. Not too keen on the Mazda 2 as i'm quite big sized and it's kinda small for me when i tried my friend's.

For Hondas is the new FIT a good choice for my specifications?

    • If u think Mazda 2( the new version) is too small for u, then u can forget about the new Honda Fit. Its more or less the same space. But surprising, my big sized friend commented that he like the spacious seat provided by Mazda 2.

    • When in doubt,go for Toyota Vios,as Toyota is always good in FC as well as has second hand value when u wanna upgrade.

not entirely true; the 2.4 Sonata does better mileage than a 2.0 camry.

Ok out of the budget i know.

    • If you kinda prepare to buy a car. You should have mentally prepared that your resources will be exhausted on car anytime. It is Akin taking care of a BABY.

Nick and amanda has a baby. Amanda baby - :~~ ee kei. This is Nick next baby: boom boom boom. Every Mercedes Benz owner like mercedes benz service.

I prefer u buy a mercedes. So quiet inside when u switch on the radio. Really fantatic.

Another commercial very funny one: The wife of the mecerdes Benz owner: WHY DO YOU KEEP your car Picture in the wallet? Every Mercedes Benz owner like mercedes benz service.

    • SX4 has my vote.

It's a fairly new model, the handling is smooth, decent capacity and reasonably stylish.

Lancer is just too darn common on sg roads.

The mileage will NEVER be zero, even for a freaking new car out of the factory. icon_rolleyes.gif

      Nope. Minimum 70-100km at least.

Added: This estimation is for most Japan/Korean cars, continental cars maybe lesser. If you know anything at all, you'll know why. I'm too lazy to tell you anymore.

    • New option if you want an economical car. The Volkswagen Polo BlueMotion. With less drag coefficient, tyres with lesser rolling resistance, etc. Expect FC in the region of 20-26km/l. Official figures from VW is 26km/l, rather impossible to achieve IMHO. But still going to be very economical.

Diesel cars carry less tax now, $1.25 per CC. So you can actually start to consider diesel-powered cars now.

Added: The VW Polo BlueMotion has a 1.4-litre 3-cylinder turbodiesel engine with 80bhp and 195Nm. So tax is roughly @ $1777.50.

    • buy second hand car la. Its so much cheaper.

Take for eg, you can buy a 2 year old toyota vios for around 38k (roughly) instead of a new one which will cost 70k.

2 year later, you can still sell the car at 30k and 38k(if you buy first hand) respectively.

      Difference = 38k - 30k = 8k

      Difference = 70k - 38k = 22k

Not really always the case.Must also enter at the right timing.

Both owner sell begining of these year only.

      06Vios-brought 54K,sold 40K.

      06Verna-brought 45K,sold 33K.(me)(paper value 18K only)

If u see at the selling price(40K vs 33K),u will think that vios having better second hand value, right?

U must check how much the vios is brought in the first place.

Nowadays there are no such thing as better value. All budget cars value are almost the same.

Quote u one more eg.Both owner sell last two mths only.

      06Sunny with 10K coe,sell at 34K.

      06Rio with 10K coe,sell at 32K.
