Soil subsidence at Marina Boulevard
A depression measuring 5 metres wide and 2.5 metres deep, formed at Marina Boulevard at about 9 this morning.
The Urban Redevelopment Authority says it happened next to the slip road towards East Coast Parkway, where construction works for the Common Services Tunnel is being carried out.
It says no one was hurt in the incident.
URA and professional engineers appointed for the Common Services Tunnel have made assessments and established that there is no risk to drivers or the general public.
Marina Boulevard which was temporarily closed and traffic diverted as a precautionary measure has since been opened to the public.
URA says works to backfill the hole is in progress. - 938Live
might be cause by the reconstruction of the road for fomula 1.
Think they really dig too excessively, building the normal MRT line is alright. But digging the circle line cause alot of soil movement, therefore subsidence. This is not the first case of soil subsidence, been so many cases liao. I wonder if the houses near the circle line are safe from collapse, given that recently there was a case where the driveway of a house caved in, resulting in the family being put up in a hotel.
The govt's over-zealousness and over ambitious goals in consecutivly meeting the deadlines of both IR and F1 on reclaimed land sounds like a road disaster cocktail waiting to be served.
These days driving on the roads is dangerous, apart from accidents from vehicles, one also has to contend with the road cave in that could happen unexpectedly.
