Do a search in the Vista start by typing: “memory”

Upgraded to Sp1. No change in performance index. laptop seems abit sluggish.
I just changed my windows vista startup sound, should i post it here? because it is quite tedious, and gave me a blue screen when i boot for the first time with a hacked system file, bt is ok after that

Not seeing it. Drivers issues still unsolved.
I will double check with HP again... wonders if they have updated drivers.

i changed it to a sound i wanted, it's veri short thouugh, in xp the sound last quite long, in vista, it onli last the same length as the original one....
need to use the run tool to take 'ownership' of the windows file, then u can replace the file.
need use resource hacker to edit the dll file, then bring it into the system32(dun have 64 bit, so i dunno) folder, sometimes will have BSOD, but even after replacing the original windows file, there will be no pic @ the back when startup and shutdown
edit:
I installed the dreamscene made for windows vista home premium, how can i make it work with .wmv file ar? i tried they dun let me choose a video file.

If you suspect your ram to be at the root of the weaknesses of your system, I suggest a little utility (included in windows vista), which will check everything.
Do a search in the Vista start by typing: “memory”
Tool “diagnoses of memory” is displayed, click on it
The utility asks you to choose between an immediate test (restart) or a review on the next restart.
Choose your solution and once it’s done it will display the test results
i did a test on next boot up, and now my laptop does a memory test everytime it boots up, how to stop it?( there's no other options in the utility other than immediate restart and test or review on the next restart....

no problem with mine. I have tested this before posting it.
Anyways try this method first
When the Memory Diagnostics Tool starts, press F1.
You can adjust the following settings:
Test mix. Choose what type of test you want to run. These options are listed when you run the Memory Diagnostics Tool
Cache. Choose the cache setting you want for each test.
Pass count. Type the number of times you want to repeat the tests.
Press F10 to start the test.

kenneth, which option should i adjust to stop auto testing when i boot up.
i selected 1 for pass count and it still auto test when i restart my laptop
I wonder why i see random glitches for a moment after the Vista logo and tune during startup.
found a way to disable the automatic memory diagnostic test which starts everytime ur comp boots up.
- Open command prompt as Admistrator: by typing in start ''cmd'' right click the .exe file and then clicking on adminstrator.
- Then typing in the console: ''bcdedit /bootsequence {memdiag} /remove'' press enter, after that you can restart your com. and it wont start
The memory problem is a known issue that was detected in Vista sp1.

gpedit.msc is only available in Vista Business, Enterprise and Ultimate.
Your Home premium version does not have it.

more details here:
http://cybernetnews.com/2008/01/21/vista-recovery-disc/
A recovery disc for Vista.
Actually, this was built into the beta of Vista SP1. For some reason, MS removed it in the RC release and the final release.
Had I known, I would have tested the beta and created a nice disc. Now I need to download.
Anyway, I downloaded it and tested it halfway because it asked me to install Vista?
I freaked out and halted the test. I don't wanna destroy my recovery partition. LOL. Anybody who is willing to trash their Vista can test it fully and let me know.
