The Hong Kong Police Force (HKPFï¼Œalias Hong Kong Policeï¼ŒHKP) is the largest disciplined service under the Security Bureau of Hong Kong. It is the world's second and Asia's first police agency to operate with a modern policing system. It was formed on 1 May 1844, with a strength of 32 officers. Queen Elizabeth II granted the Royal Charter to the Hong Kong Police Force in 1969 for their handling of the Hong Kong 1967 riots, renaming the Hong Kong Police Force as the Royal Hong Kong Police Force. Following the Transfer of sovereignty over Hong Kong, the Police Force now uses the current name.

The Hong Kong Police Force has been recognised for its professionalism, organization, and prompt response, leading journalist Kevin Sinclair to laud the Hong Kong Police Force as "Asia's Finest". In addition, both the Federal Bureau of Investigation and INTERPOL have praised the police force. And in having set up the foundation for the social stability of Hong Kong, and has won a good reputation as one of the safest cities in the World.

The current Commissioner of Police is Tang King Shing, including the Hong Kong Auxiliary Police Force and civil servants, leading a force of about 40,000 people, and is the second greatest citizen-officer ratio in the world. In addition, the Marine Region with about 3,000 officers, and a fleet of 143 is the largest of any civil police force.

Emergency Unit comprises the ordinary uniformed policemen. The unit is primarily tasked with regular patrol beats as well as providing quick responses to emergency situations such as 999 calls, as well as a speedy and additional presence of uniformed police on the ground to combat crime. An EU comprises a headquarters element and four platoons which operate on a three-shift basis.

Administration Formation; implements policies laid down by the Regional Commander and is responsible for the Region's general administration. Its responsibilities include community relations, staff relations, and magistracies.

Crime Formation; investigates serious and inter-district crimes. In addition, it collects, collates and evaluates intelligence on criminals and criminal activity within the Region.

The Traffic Branch Headquarters: tasked with traffic control, enforcement of traffic legislation and regulations, investigation of traffic accidents, promotion of road safety, and implementing Force and Regional traffic policies.
