DESTRUCTION OF GENERAL ELECTION 2011
BALLOT PAPERS AND OTHER DOCUMENTS
In accordance with Section 49(9) of the Parliamentary Elections Act
(Chapter 218), ballot papers and other documents used in the election
shall be sealed and retained in safe custody for a period of 6 months,
after which they shall be destroyed unless otherwise directed by order
of the President. This is to ensure secrecy of the vote.
All sealed boxes containing ballot papers and other documents used in
the General Election on 7 May 2011 will be transported from the Supreme
Court, where they have been retained in safe custody, to the Tuas South
Incineration Plant on 12 November 2011 for destruction by incineration.
The proceedings will be witnessed by the Returning Officer and
candidates at the General Election. Candidates who wish to witness the
proceedings are requested to inform the Elections Department by 11
November
2011, 12.00 noon.
